<p>Oakhill College seeks to appoint an innovative Academic Head of Library with excellent leadership, communication skills, library and classroom experience. The successful applicant will have an understanding of the education of boys, knowledge of current developments in teaching and learning, and a passion and enthusiasm for teaching.</p>
<p>The PJ Walsh Oakhill College Library is a modern information learning hub that has reimagined how students develop information literacy skills and a love of literature. The Academic Head of Library provides invaluable learning on how to locate relevant resources, evaluate the credibility and usefulness of information, apply literacy strategies in the presentation of information and how to be a thoughtful digital citizen. </p>
<p>The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate knowledge of, and experience in, the areas listed below:</p>
<p><strong>Key duties and responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Provide effective leadership, supervision, and a safe library environment;</li>
<li>Oversee the day to day running and management of the Library;</li>
<li>Maintain a professional team environment and expectation, ensuring needs are met with the highest standard of support possible;</li>
<li>Support staff and students to ensure success in teaching and learning;</li>
<li>Partner with educators to design and teach evidence-based curricula and assessments that integrate elements of deeper learning, critical thinking, information literacy, literature appreciation, digital citizenship, creativity, innovation and the active use of technology;</li>
<li>Lead learning to cultivate broader understanding of the skills that comprise success in a digital age;</li>
<li>Understanding of the College information needs to identify and invest in resources such as books, ebooks and digital online tools to support student learning;</li>
<li>Maintain the library budget and expenditure using data and student/staff feedback;</li>
<li>Meet regularly with library team members to effectively communicate goals. Mentor team members and provide feedback with respect to performance where necessary;</li>
<li>Create and maintain a Professional Development Plan for library team members to ensure they are well trained and that standards are met. Formally review team members on a planned basis;</li>
<li>Formulate a Library Strategic Plan and provide various reports on progress to the Principal;</li>
<li>Vision for Teaching and Learning;</li>
<li>Administration of a Faculty;</li>
<li>Lead special projects as directed by the Principal.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>The successful applicant will demonstrate:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Qualifications held in Library Science, Literature and Education;</li>
<li>Library leadership experience (preferred);</li>
<li>Minimum five years experience in a teacher-librarian role;</li>
<li>Proven ability in successful team management and conflict resolution;</li>
<li>Experience in managing a library and information services including system administration of an automated library system;</li>
<li>Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders including students, parents, other staff members, schooling regulatory authorities and suppliers;</li>
<li>The successful applicant will have a warm and welcoming disposition, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability to work well autonomously and in a team environment, flexibility, creativity and excellent attention to detail;</li>
<li>Demonstrate a clear understanding and commitment to the Mission of the Catholic School;</li>
<li>Be supportive of the Lasallian ethos of the College;</li>
<li>Adhere to the College’s Safeguarding Standards and Child Protection policies and procedures;</li>
<li>Be an experienced, innovative, and engaging team member;</li>
<li>Teach with excellence, professionalism, and commitment;</li>
<li>Have an ability to relate to girls and boys with a practical knowledge of boys’ education issues and initiatives in the foundation years (Stage 4 and 5);</li>
<li>Be committed to professional growth and development of excellence.</li>
</ul>
<p>The appointment is for an initial period of up to 3 years, renewable by mutual agreement.</p>
