Good Shepherd Lutheran College seeks a dynamic HR and education leader to join the Senior Leadership Team as Director of Staff.

Good Shepherd Lutheran College is an independent school in the Darwin region that offers outstanding education from Early Learning to Year 12, across three campuses: Howard Springs, Palmerston, and Leanyer. The College is a Christ-centred learning community that fosters academic excellence, wellbeing, innovation and service. The College is an International Baccalaureate World School, delivering the Primary Years Programme across our three Junior Schools.

The Director of Staff is a key member of the College's Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for leading human resources strategy and operations, as well as overseeing the professional development of teaching staff. This role contributes both operationally and strategically to continuous improvement, day-to-day success and the delivery of the College Strategic Plan.

The successful candidate will support the growth and wellbeing of all staff, while ensuring human resource practices meet legal, financial, and educational compliance standards. They will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of effective policies, performance appraisal systems, professional learning initiatives and workforce planning that enable all staff to grow and flourish.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Promote and maintain a Christ-centred identity throughout the College through worship, visual symbols, and a culture of grace. Ensure Human Resources practices are aligned with the Lutheran ethos and the Growing Deep Framework.
  • Lead all aspects of staff recruitment, onboarding, and induction to ensure new staff are welcomed, supported, and ready to contribute effectively.
  • Oversee staff appraisal and professional growth, aligning development initiatives with the College's strategic goals.
  • Ensure legal, financial, and educational compliance in all HR operations. Develop and maintain policies, employment records, and staff accreditation processes.
  • Provide strategic HR advice to the Principal and Senior Leadership Team. Lead workforce planning and succession strategies.
  • Support pedagogical and wellbeing leadership across the College, contributing to an environment of excellence in learning.
  • Inspire a culture of ongoing improvement and collaboration. Build relationships with universities and external providers for staff development.
  • Develop strategies for staff wellbeing and pastoral care. Foster an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative work culture.
  • Lead HR-related risk management including Workcover, WHS, and enterprise agreement compliance. Manage sensitive employee matters professionally.
  • Represent staff interests in College initiatives, foster strong community partnerships, and celebrate staff contributions internally and externally.

  • Salary range: $180,000 to $190,000 gross per annum
