Laboratory Technician

<p>Applications are invited from a suitably qualified, professional lab assistant who is enthusiastic, dedicated, and willing to support the Christian ethos of the College.</p><p>The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and understanding of correct procedures for preparing, handling, storing, and disposing of chemicals and other scientific material. Support teaching staff with practical activities in the classroom. With a strong working knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics, laboratory, and safety practices.</p><p><strong>This is a temporary part-time role, 3 days per week, available to start immediately until the end of term 4, 2024</strong></p><p><strong>SELECTION CRITERIA</strong></p><p><strong>Demonstrated ability to maintain a science laboratory </strong></p><ul><li>The provision of technical services to the Science faculty that support the teaching of Science, including the preparation of experimental equipment </li><li>Assist in the demonstration of experiments under the supervision of an academic staff member</li><li>Prepare, maintain, and dispense stock solutions, simple chemical mixtures, and compounds, cultures, or similar materials</li><li>Perform Laboratory Assistant duties according to Workplace Health & Safety requirements </li><li>Be familiar with MSDS and hazardous substances and other chemicals and keep up-to-date records of these substances</li><li>Be familiar with the Chemwatch database system and RiskAssess, or similar.</li></ul><p><strong>Key competencies, skills & experiences:</strong></p><ul><li>Certificate in Laboratory Technology (analytical or scientific), or equivalent post-secondary qualification appropriate to the nature of the work</li><li>A commitment to support and uphold the Christian ethos</li><li>Good written and verbal communication skills</li><li>Be familiar with the operation of all equipment</li><li>Reliable and able to work independently or in a team environment</li><li>Ability to liaise with external agencies i.e. ordering of stores and equipment</li></ul><p> Please email your resume and a cover letter addressing your ability to carry out the above duties and responsibilities to janetm@shaps.nsw.edu.au by the closing date. <br /> </p><p> </p>
