School Support Officer

A part time school hours role for a School Support Officer to join our small and collegiate team. A Term 4 start is preferred but a Term 1 2027 start is possible. The position can be from three to five days per week for the preferred candidate. The position works from 9 - 3 term time plus one week in the December holidays and one week in the mid year holidays.

<p>Dara School is inviting applications for an experienced and enthusiastic School Support Officer to join our small and friendly team. We are looking for someone who can provide a safe and secure environment to all students and role model a calm and consistent approach. Someone who can build a rapport with young learners. Someone who approaches students compassionately, assisting with emotional regulation and supporting their ability to access learning, including for students with additional learning needs.</p>
<p>School Support Officers are an essential part of our community and support our teaching staff in the classroom, on the playground, on excursions and in sporting activities. Under direction they work with students in the classroom to allow them to engage with our curriculum. School support staff work with our students from Reception to lower Secondary. We work with our staff to allow them, wherever possible, to work with their preferred age ranges.</p>
<p>This position is ideally three days a week but opportunities are available for fewer or more days for the right candidate. You will work from 9am to 3pm, during school term times. In addition to term time, the candidate will work for one week in the December/January holidays and one week in the mid year holidays.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications and Experience</strong></p>
<p><strong>Essential</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Working With Children Clearance</li>
<li>Hold a current satisfactory National Police Check</li>
<li>Hold a current First Aid Certificate</li>
<li>Must have, or be prepared to undertake, Responding to Risks of Harm Abuse and Neglect Training (RRHAN)</li>
<li>Evidence of prior experience as a School Support Officer or similar role</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to build a rapport with students and engage students in learning</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to support students with challenging behaviours compassionately, assisting with emotional regulation</li>
<li>Competent numeracy and literacy skills</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to conduct respectful and professional relationships with the public and with colleagues, maintaining a calm and approachable manner</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a flexible team focussed environment</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality</li>
<li>Organisational and time management skills</li>
<li>Commitment to maintaining and modelling Dara core values of Courage, Connection, Curiosity, Creativity and Compassion</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Desirable</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience in supporting students with ASD and ADHD</li>
<li>Experience in implementing teacher prepared strategies to support improved learning outcomes and student wellbeing</li>
