Gateway Community High is a small "alternative" high school that opened in Carlingford in January 2021, catering to the needs of keen and willing young people who have not thrived in mainstream (large) schools. We are seeking an exceptional and flexible teacher to join our growing team. Recent experience teaching Stage 5 and 6 Mathematics and/or Science is an advantage. The role is a 2 Term contract with the possibility to extend after this period.

The School currently caters for 80, Stage 5 and 6 students offering a NESA curriculum which enables students to attain their ROSA and HSC.</p> <p>As a Special Assistance School, Gateway Community High offers small class sizes and a supportive, flexible, engaging and practical learning environment for motivated students that have not thrived in mainstream settings. We aim to reconnect students with their education, help them set a new direction and build their skills and knowledge for future success.</p> <p>The School is part of a growing movement of special assistance schools. Please ask us how this can benefit you.</p> <p>We are committed to ongoing professional development opportunities to support staff with their levels of accreditation and career progression.</p> <p><strong>Mandatory Criteria: Essential employment requirements</strong></p> <ul> <li>Australian Citizen, permanent resident or relevant visa</li> <li>Qualified secondary school teacher eligible for accreditation in NSW.</li> <li>Current, proficient level (or above) NESA teacher accreditation.</li> <li>A minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience.</li> <li>Working With Children Clearance (WWCC)</li> <li>Satisfactory national police check</li> </ul> <p><strong>Selection Criteria: Experience, Skills and Commitment to Purpose</strong></p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience working with a diverse range of learners including a focus on youth development.</li> <li>Sound understanding of the wellbeing needs of students who have had multiple social and emotional barriers to engaging in their education.</li> <li>Previous experience working closely with students that face a range of challenges to full participation in their education.</li> <li>Proven capacity to effectively engage and work collaboratively with other staff, fostering a culture of serving others, professionalism, responsibility and collegiality in open communication.</li> <li>Proven capacity to understand the needs of learners that may have attainment below their age or Stage level, and apply appropriate differentiated teaching, monitoring and assessment strategies.</li> <li>Proven capacity to deliver curriculum in a relevant, meaningful and engaging manner, with differentiation as the norm.</li> <li>Proven capacity to work collaboratively with others in the wider management of student wellbeing and development.</li> <li>Demonstrated understanding of how to engage, relate and work appropriately and sensitively with young people with a range of abilities, ambitions and backgrounds.</li> <li>Understanding of and respect for cultural and other forms of diversity.</li> <li>Strong skills in using ICT technologies and software, in particular, school management systems (Sentral) and record keeping.</li> <li>Proven capacity to work strategically and effectively through challenges.</li> <li>Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.</li> </ul> <p><strong>At Gateway Community High we are committed to:</strong></p> <ul> <li>The safety and wellbeing of all children and young people; AND</li> <li>Providing a child safe and child friendly environment, where children and young people are safe and feel safe.</li> <li>Students actively participate in decisions that affect their lives.</li> </ul> <p>We have a zero tolerance for child abuse and other harm and are committed to acting in students' best interests and keeping them safe from harm.</p> <p>The successful candidates will be responsible for nurturing the philosophy, culture and values with staff and students to achieve our vision of creating better futures.</p>
