<p>In a Victorian Catholic primary school, a classroom teacher is responsible for delivering high-impact instruction grounded in the <strong>Science of Learning</strong>, ensuring that pedagogical practices align with how students best process and retain information. This involves the consistent use of <strong>explicit teaching</strong> models—such as "I Do, We Do, You Do"—to provide clear scaffolding and reduce cognitive load for all learners. Teachers are required to maintain academic rigor by <strong>implementing scheduled assessments</strong> as mandated by <strong>Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS)</strong>, using this data to track progress and differentiate instruction effectively.</p> <p>Beyond academics, the role carries a profound responsibility for <strong>Child Safety</strong>, requiring the strict maintenance of professional boundaries and the active fulfillment of all legislative requirements under <strong>Ministerial Order 1359</strong>. Furthermore, as an integral member of a faith community, the teacher must be <strong>accredited to teach in a Catholic School</strong> (or be actively working towards this accreditation), demonstrating a commitment to the school’s religious mission and the holistic development of every child.</p> <p>Teachers in Victorian Catholic primary schools must hold current registration with the <a href="https://www.vit.vic.edu.au/" rel="nofollow"><u>Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)</u></a> and meet specific Catholic employer requirements.</p> <p><strong>VIT Registration Requirements</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Qualifications:</strong> At least four years of tertiary study, including an approved Initial Teacher Education (ITE) degree.</li> <li><strong>Suitability Checks:</strong> A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) conducted by VIT.</li> <li><strong>LANTITE:</strong> Successful completion of the <a href="https://www.vit.vic.edu.au/register/how-to" rel="nofollow">Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education</a> (for graduates from 2016 onwards).</li> <li><strong>Child Safety:</strong> Commitment to Child Safe Standards and Ministerial Order 1359.</li> <li><strong>Ongoing Maintenance:</strong> Annual renewal by 30 September, 20 hours of professional learning, and 20 days of teaching practice per yea</li> </ul>
