About the role

This is a practical, delivery-focused finance role supporting a small team and a diverse set of stakeholders. Working closely with the CFO, you’ll operate as a key support and sounding board — taking on a broad mix of hands-on accounting work, ad-hoc problem-solving, and project-based tasks that keep the organisation running well.

You’ll be trusted to manage your workload, prioritise effectively, and take ownership of outcomes in a small, high-trust environment, while managing core accounting tasks while also responding to ad-hoc questions, untangling issues, and helping improve how things are done.

It’s a role for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, enjoys problem-solving, and can work through issues with limited direction — while knowing when to ask questions or collaborate.

Depending on experience, the role will include:

Supporting the CFO with analysis, insight, and practical problem-solving across day-to-day operations and projects

Managing day-to-day accounting activities (including reconciliations, journals, and month-end processes)

Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting

Working across multiple systems and data sources, and helping improve how they connect

Responding to ad-hoc finance queries from internal stakeholders

Applying sound accounting judgement and pragmatism when working through complex or unclear issues

Improving processes, controls, and documentation over time

Supporting compliance, audit, and good financial governance

Contributing to a finance function that is trusted, responsive, and solutions-focused

About you

We’re looking for a thoughtful, capable finance professional who brings both technical skill and a warm, collaborative approach.

You’ll likely have:

Strong accounting capability and sound technical judgement

Confidence working independently, with the ability to “join the dots” quickly

Alignment with ALWS’s Christian, faith-based mission and values

A practical, tech-savvy mindset and interest in improving systems and processes

Clear, confident communication skills and a collaborative working style

Excellent organisation, reliability, and follow-through

A calm, adaptable approach and comfort working in a small organisation

A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is required

Experience in the NFP or charity sector is helpful but not essential — values alignment and capability matter more.
