The College promotes the pursuit of academic excellence and social responsibility&nbsp;supporting its staff and families to meet the high expectations for the achievement and holistic development of its students in our local, national and international communities.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>About the Role</u>:&nbsp;</strong></p> <p>The Head of HSIE leads the delivery of education in the HSIE Department across the Senior School (7-12). They support the strategic directions of Bellfield College through delivery of effective teaching and learning programs, fostering an inclusive and challenging learning environment and engaging with the school community within and beyond the classroom. This is a full-time permanent position commencing in term 1, 2026 (Monday, 19 January) however we will consider a flexible start in 2026 for the right candidate. Generous remuneration will be offered above the published 2025/2026 CMEA rates.</p> <p>The Head of Department will work in close collaboration with the Head of Senior School and is a direct report to the Head of Senior School.&nbsp;</p> <p>The Head of Department is considered to be the academic and pastoral care leader for their faculty. The primary focus of the role is to provide academic and pastoral care leadership to ensure that all students excel in achieving their personal best. Additionally, the Head of Department has the following responsibilities.&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Translating the goals and mission of the School into measurable key academic and pastoral outcomes.&nbsp;</li> <li>Management and development of all academic and pastoral requirements required to support students.&nbsp;</li> <li>Provide strategic leadership and ongoing support for teaching staff.&nbsp;</li> <li>Continued development and management of a Pastoral Care program specifically targeted at students’ needs.&nbsp;</li> <li>You must take steps to engage students, staff, and community in helping shape an effective curriculum. Assess the teaching and learning programs of your faculty.&nbsp;</li> <li>Analyse performance data and work with the faculty teachers to identify observable indicators in teaching and classroom programs that&nbsp;demonstrate the desired outcomes are receiving proper attention.&nbsp;</li> <li>Identify and implement evidence-based, authentic, pedagogy across your faculty.&nbsp;</li> <li>Manage items on the curriculum timeline. The Head of Department is responsible for curriculum compliance relating to RoSA and HSC as per the NSW Education Standards Authority.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong><u>Responsibilities related to an engaging curriculum</u></strong>- in conjunction with the Head of Senior School&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Manage the academic requirements of the National Curriculum to assist faculty teachers to discern the outcomes for&nbsp;student understanding and the direction needed for student inquiry into those outcomes.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Ensure all faculty teachers scrutinise the outcomes of the National Curriculum as a basis for identifying the most&nbsp;effective learning strategies needed to provide evidence of students' understanding and their ability to apply the&nbsp;learning identified by the National Curriculum.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Assist teachers to identify learning tasks and to select and develop relevant rubrics.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Identify trends in ICT software, curriculum, teaching strategies and new resources.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong><u>Responsibilities related to Assessment</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Manage the faculty Assessment Scope and Sequence.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Ensure curriculum units of work are designed to cater for the diverse needs of learners. <i>This includes ensuring:&nbsp;t</i>eachers represent information in multiple formats and media, teachers provide multiple pathways for students&nbsp;action and expression, teachers provide multiple ways to engage students interest and motivation, teachers use effective ICT strategies in their classroom delivery.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong><u>Responsibilities related to results</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Manage the continual monitoring of student achievement and progress and propose interventions.&nbsp;</li> <li>Regularly examine results from a variety of sources, including External tests, School based assessments, Samples of&nbsp;student work, feedback from staff, students, parents, and the community about what is working and what isn't.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Manage the regular review of results, followed development, and planning for improvement.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Manage the process for staff to develop and implement an action research project with one or more colleagues including:&nbsp;&nbsp; <ul> <li>What is working well in the faculty?&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>What isn't working&nbsp;</li> <li>What do you propose to do about it?&nbsp;</li> <li>What resulted from your action research?&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> </ul></li> </ul> <p><strong><u>Responsibilities related to Leadership of Staff&nbsp;</u></strong>- in conjunction with the Head of Senior School&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Organise and lead faculty and other staff meetings.&nbsp;</li> <li>Proactively assist teachers to keep abreast of current information about teaching and learning.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Support teachers through all levels of the teacher’s accreditation.</li> <li>Developing, managing and coordinator learning support staff for the HSIE department.
