We are seeking a suitably experienced Technology Assistant – Hands-on Learning to join our College Student Wellbeing team on a part-time, fixed-term basis until January 2027.
<p>We are seeking a suitably experienced Technology Assistant – Hands-on Learning to join our College Student Wellbeing team on a part-time, fixed-term basis until January 2027.<br><br>
This role supports our Hands-on Learning program by helping teachers run safe, practical sessions where students work with tools, machines and materials. It suits someone with a trade background or strong practical skills who enjoys working with young people and keeping a workshop running smoothly.<br><br>
The days and hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8.30 am – 3.30 pm.<br>
</p>
<p><strong>Key responsibilities include (but not limited to):</strong><br>
</p>
<ul>
<li>Preparing materials, tools and equipment for Hands-on Learning classes.</li>
<li>Supporting teachers during all practical sessions, including class setup, supervision and safe operation of machinery.</li>
<li>Assisting with cutting, shaping and preparing timber, plastics, metals and other materials using hand tools, power tools and industrial equipment.</li>
<li>Maintaining and servicing workshop machinery daily and ensuring all tools are safe and well-kept.</li>
<li>Keeping work areas, machines and storage spaces clean and organised.</li>
<li>Helping source materials, suppliers, equipment and tools while keeping within budget.</li>
<li>Supporting the maintenance of the Horticultural Centre.</li>
<li>Keeping safety records up to date, including chemical handling and machine risk assessments.</li>
<li>Contributing to a safe learning environment and modelling safe work practices.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>The successful candidate will have the following experience, skills and attributes:</strong><br>

<li>Practical skills in woodwork, metalwork, plastics, systems, horticulture or textiles.</li>
<li>Strong workshop safety awareness and understanding of OH&S expectations.</li>
<li>Good problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain, repair and improve equipment.</li>
<li>The ability to work with young people in a calm, supportive and professional way.</li>
<li>Strong communication and organisational skills.</li>
<li>Flexibility to adapt as projects, tools and facilities evolve.</li>
