<p><strong>Applications are invited for the following ongoing position at St Ita’s Catholic Primary School, Drouin, commencing January 27th, 2026 :</strong></p>
<p><strong>School Counsellor- Part-time FTE 0.54 - 3 days per week, 8.30am - 3.30pm</strong></p>
<p>The remuneration for this position will be in accordance with the Victorian Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2023. The role will be classified as a Level 2-8 Category B Education Support Employee.</p>
<p>St Ita's Catholic Primary School is seeking an experienced and compassionate <strong>School Counsellor</strong> to join our wellbeing team. This role supports the emotional, social and developmental needs of students and contributes to a safe, inclusive and faith-filled Catholic school community.</p>
<p><strong>Role Overview</strong></p>
<p>The School Counsellor at St Ita’s Primary School holds a pivotal position within the school community, playing a key role in supporting the Principal and Executive Leadership Team to realise the school’s Mission and Instructional Vision.</p>
<p>This role is central to supporting the school’s Positive Behaviour approach and ensuring the fulfilment of moral, ethical, and legal responsibilities in providing pastoral care to students—and, indirectly, their families—during times of challenge or crisis.</p>
<p>The School Counsellor’s primary responsibility is to provide counselling services that enable students to engage effectively with school and learning. The School Counsellor reports directly to the Principal and Deputy Principal and collaborates closely with the Deputy Principal, MHIPS Leader, Learning Adjustment Leader, classroom teachers, and other staff as required to support children and their families.</p>
<p>The role includes providing counselling and wellbeing support for students and families requiring Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention across a wide range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Support may also extend to small groups of students or classroom cohorts where appropriate.</p>
<p><strong>Statement of Duties</strong></p>
<p>The duties of the School Counsellor include, but are not limited to:</p>
<p><strong>Counselling & Student Support</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Providing counselling services for students across Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels.</li>
<li>Meeting with parents/carers to support student health, wellbeing, and attendance.</li>
<li>Supporting families initiating contact with The Orange Door or similar services (e.g., parenting support, domestic violence support, social work).</li>
<li>Designing and providing scripts and guidance for staff responding to critical concerns such as suicide ideation, self-harm, eating disorders, and significant anxiety.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Collaboration & Case Management</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Participating in weekly Wellbeing Meetings to monitor students at risk.</li>
<li>Participating in the Attendance Team to help reduce the impact of absences on vulnerable students.</li>
<li>Supporting the ongoing monitoring of students as requested by DFFH (Department of Families, Fairness and Housing).</li>
<li>Working collaboratively with teachers and leaders to support students requiring targeted intervention (Tier 2 & 3).</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Compliance, Reporting & Record Keeping</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Maintaining confidential and accurate records, including those related to reports made to the Department of Human Services, Victoria Police, or other relevant agencies.</li>
<li>Promptly informing the Principal of any mandatory reports.</li>
<li>Promptly informing the Principal or Deputy Principal Inclusive Education of any Family Violence (FV) or Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) requests.</li>
<li>Adhering to all Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Limited (DOSCEL) policies, including Mandatory Reporting and Child Safety requirements, and maintaining current knowledge of all relevant policies.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Professional Practice & Development</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Engaging in ongoing professional supervision and professional learning to build capability and maintain high standards of practice.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>School-wide Wellbeing & Positive Behaviour</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Contributing to staff understanding and implementation of the school’s Positive Behaviour approach.</li>
<li>Supporting the development and maintenance of wellbeing and behaviour resources for school-wide use.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Partnerships & External Engagement</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Supporting the school in building strong partnerships with relevant agencies, including the Catholic Education Office Sale, Child FIRST, external specialists, and local community organisations that provide support to families.</li>
</ul>
