Utility Officer
Contract Type: Permanent/Ongoing Position Full Time

The Utility Officer coordinates grounds, maintenance and construction work using trade level skills, occasional bus-driver duties and routine cleaning duties from time to time to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe physical school environment.

<p><strong>St Aloysius Catholic College</strong> is a co-educational Catholic College on three campuses in the Kingborough Municipality. The Junior Campus located in Kingston Beach (Kinder – Year 4), the Middle Campus located in Huntingfield (Years 5-8) and the Senior Campus also located in Huntingfield (Years 9-12).</p>

<p><strong>About the Role</strong></p>
<p>The Utility Officer is responsible for coordinating and performing general maintenance, groundskeeping, and occasional construction and cleaning tasks to maintain the school’s facilities. The role also involves occasional bus driving and vehicle care. You will work collaboratively with the Facilities and Compliance Coordinator and report to the Business Manager, contributing to a school culture grounded in Catholic values and the mission of Catholic Education Tasmania.</p>

<p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Coordinate and perform general building, grounds, and vehicle maintenance</li>
<li>Allocate tasks to utility staff, contractors, and volunteers, and supervise work performed</li>
<li>Maintain and care for school vehicles, including cleaning and minor servicing</li>
<li>Support safety practices, including WHS compliance, risk assessments, and contractor inductions</li>
<li>Set up for events and support emergency drills such as lockdowns and evacuations</li>
<li>Maintain hand tools, power tools, and manage chemical usage safely</li>
<li>Ensure grounds and facilities are clean, orderly, and safe</li>
<li>Contribute to the school’s maintenance and safety planning and documentation</li>
<li>Actively participate in team collaboration and professional development</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>About You</strong></p>
<p>You are a reliable and self-motivated professional with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You demonstrate integrity, initiative, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment. You also bring excellent communication skills and a willingness to support the Catholic ethos of the school.</p>
<p><strong>Essential Requirements:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Relevant trade or technical qualifications (e.g. Certificate III or equivalent)</li>
<li>Current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Registration</li>
<li>Current and satisfactory National Police Check</li>
<li>Tasmanian driver’s licence (light, medium or heavy rigid), or willingness to obtain</li>
<li>Accreditation A: Accreditation to work in a Catholic School, or willingness to work towards this</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Desirable:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Manual handling certificate</li>
<li>Experience supervising others</li>
<li>Familiarity with school environments or similar settings</li>
</ul>

<p>Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement 2024.</p>
