<p><strong>Head of Valdocco</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Preamble</strong></p> <p>St Joseph’s College is a Catholic boys’ school in the Salesian tradition. The Head of Valdocco is responsible for fostering a sense of unity, growth and development within the Valdocco Campus (Year 9). The Head of Valdocco works in collaboration with a number of staff including the Principal, Deputy Principals, Directors, Heads, Year 9 Leader, Learning Area Leaders and Year 9 Learning Leader.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Child Safe Standards</strong></p> <p>The Head of Valdocco must be:</p> <ul> <li>committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people.</li> <li>able to demonstrate an understanding of the Child Safe Standards and their legal obligations under the Ministerial Order No. 870.</li> <li>a suitable person to be engaged in working with children and young people.</li> <li>able to understand and commit to Child Safe Standards and expectations relating to Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) PROTECT, VRQA and VIT.</li> <li>able to demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Child Safety protocols, Codes of Conduct and to ensuring the Child Safe focus of St Joseph’s College.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>General Responsibilities</strong></p> <p>The Head of Valdocco works to inspire enthusiastic, effective teaching within the Valdocco Campus, ensuring that resources, talents and facilities are fully and effectively utilised in achieving the Goals and Annual Action Plan in line with the Strategic Direction of the College. There are some duties which are determined on an annual basis.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The&nbsp;Head of Valdocco is&nbsp;responsible for the daily running of the&nbsp;Head of Valdocco&nbsp;and, in cooperation with members of the College Leadership Team, the strategic planning and maintenance of the ‘Valdocco Vision and Culture’. Furthermore, the&nbsp;Head of Valdocco&nbsp;is responsible for providing team leadership in the areas of ‘teaching and learning’ and ‘student wellbeing’ at the Year 9 Campus.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The&nbsp;Head of Valdocco&nbsp;should demonstrate a sound understanding of the Salesian principles and leadership and his/her actions should reflect the values and teachings of Don Bosco and represent best practice in the delivery of student wellbeing and discipline.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The conduct and demeanour of the&nbsp;Head of Valdocco&nbsp;should represent the highest professional standards. The&nbsp;Head of Valdocco&nbsp;will communicate the vision for the campus and, together with the staff of Valdocco, implement an integrated teaching and learning model that will engage boys and instill relevance by creating a learning environment that challenges and has meaning for adolescents.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Qualities</strong></p> <p>The Head of Valdocco is required:</p> <ol> <li>To have a comprehensive knowledge of Student Wellbeing.</li> <li>To have a comprehensive knowledge of Curriculum and Learning and Teaching pedagogy.</li> <li>To lead a team of teachers to achieve desired the educational outcomes.</li> <li>To be a highly effective teacher who is able to model best practice and assist teachers to develop their pedagogy.</li> </ol> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Duties</strong></p> <p><strong>Leadership&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>Establishing goals which are consistent with the School Improvement Plan.</li> <li>Liaising and consulting with the Deputy Principals, Directors, Head of Learning, Head of Students and other members of the Student Wellbeing Team (including school counsellors) and Teaching and Learning Team and the Curriculum Committee.</li> <li>Liaising and consulting with Deputy Principals, Directors, Head of Learning and Head of Students in regard to daily organisation and whole school/Valdocco events (including assemblies, excursions, St Joseph’s Day, Professional Development etc).&nbsp;</li> <li>Liaising with Director of RTO and Pathways to implement ‘Pathways’ related programs.</li> <li>Liaising with Director of Sport and High Performance to assist in the management of school-based and ACC sport.&nbsp;</li> <li>Liaising with Deputy Principals in relation to non-Sport ACC activities.</li> <li>Leading the Valdocco Leadership Team in partnership with the Deputy Principals by providing assistance, mentoring and support for team members, and chairing regular meetings to manage and strategically plan/implement the curriculum and wellbeing (and professional development) programs of the campus.</li> <li>Organising information evenings for parents and students.</li> <li>Planning and implementing ‘Orientation’ and ‘Induction’ programs for the Year Level and for new students/staff.</li> <li>In consultation with the Deputy Principals, approving Year Level events organised by teachers such as excursions, concerts etc.</li> <li>Working with the Deputy Principals and Professional Practice Leader to maintain and develop professional practice at Valdocco.&nbsp;</li> <li>In consultation with the Valdocco Leadership Team, arranging guest speakers to support the wellbeing and learning programs of the campus.</li> <li>Supporting the ‘Valdocco Student Leadership’ program.</li> <li>Coordinating school visits that promote the Valdocco Program.&nbsp; &nbsp;</li> <li>Liaising with Deputy Principals and Directors to ensure safe practices are implemented at the Valdocco Campus.</li> <li>Ensuring the effective management and implementation of Student Wellbeing procedures including wellbeing and discipline.&nbsp;</li> <li> <p>Coordinating the special programs at Year 9.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Daily Organisation</strong></p></li> <li>Developing and implementing programs to help ensure the safe and efficient running of the campus: yard duty rosters/work safe strategies/policies regarding student actions around the campus.</li> <li>Communicating effectively to staff (through SIMON, morning briefings/Staff Meetings) to reinforce vision and expectations as well as highlighting changes to programs/staffing matters/ yard duty changes etc.&nbsp;</li> <li>Communicating effectively to parents (through SIMON, letters home, weekly Valdocco Video Newsletter, parent meeting, etc) regarding the Valdocco Program, expectations regarding student behaviour, concerns, affirmations etc.</li> <li>Liaising with key staff to manage replacement teachers (including ensuring appropriate lesson plans are left).&nbsp;</li> <li>Coordinating the ‘Valdocco Community Service’ program to assist the daily running of Valdocco.</li> <li>Coordinating the operation of the Valdocco Canteen.&nbsp;</li> <li> <p>In consultation with the Deputy Principals and Directors, initiating and implementing timetables for special programs including, for example, exams, WorkSafe Certificate, guest speakers, SCOPE program etc.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Student Wellbeing</strong></p></li> <li>In consultation with Deputy Principals, Directors, Heads and Valdocco Leadership Team, developing appropriate wellbeing programs that develop and support the three pillars of the campus including: ‘Relationships, Responsibilities, Rehearsal’.</li> <li>In collaboration with the Deputy Principals, overseeing the wellbeing of all students at Valdocco.&nbsp;</li> <li>Meeting regularly with the Year 9 Leader and Year 9 Learning Leader to identify patterns of behaviour and develop appropriate programs/responses.</li> <li>Meeting with parents and students to review progress (curriculum focus or major discipline/welfare issues).</li> <li>Chairing ‘Year 9’ Reviews.</li> <li>Attending ‘Deputy Principal Reviews’ (as required) involving Valdocco students.</li> <li>Communicating to staff relevant issues about results of meetings, special needs of students, discipline procedures etc.</li> <li>Supporting the induction of new students.&nbsp;</li> <li>Coordinating the Student Wellbeing program including leadership of the Year Level Leader and the broader Valdocco wellbeing team.</li> <li>Providing wellbeing for all students.</li> <li>Liaising with school counsellors and the Director of Learning Enhancement to case manage students with special needs.</li> <li>Liaising with Mater Christi College to plan and coordinate a ‘Mater Christi Day’ and any other collaborative opportunities.</li> <li> <p>Recording/filing incident reports (‘incident sheets’).</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Student Leadership Program</strong></p></li> </ul> <p>The Head of Valdocco coordinates the Student Leadership Program with the support of the Year 9 Leader by:</p> <ul> <li>Operating the program within a coherent framework.</li> <li>Promoting a variety of leadership opportunities for students.</li> <li>Developing leadership skills amongst students.</li> <li>Overseeing the election of Student Representatives.</li> <li>Facilitating the activities of the Student Representatives.</li> <li> <p>Promoting effective student leadership.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Learning and Teaching&nbsp;</strong></p></li> <li>Initiating and implementing curriculum programs associated with ‘Discovery Projects’.</li> <li>In collaboration with the Learning Area Leaders and the Year 9 Learning Leader, developing programs for (Integrated), Discovery Program (including: Science, ICT, Civics and Citizenship, SCOPE, Vocations, Experiential Mathematics).</li> <li>In collaboration with the Learning Area Leaders and the Year 9 Learning Leader, directing the development of the Challenge (Elective) Program to ensure the nature of the subjects offered and the delivery of the same is consistent with the goals of the program.</li> <li>Communicating to the students and parents the process and available content of the Challenge program. (including updating and distributing the Year 9 Handbook and subject selection procedures).</li> <li>Collecting and collating ‘Subject Selection’ information.</li> <li>In liaison with the Deputy Principal (Learning), maintaining the ‘TimeTable Program’ to record and modify student programs include electives.</li> <li>Monitoring student academic progress.</li> <li>Coordinating ‘special’ programs linked to Discovery Program including: Vineyard Program, Environmental Program, Peer Support Programs at local Primary Schools etc.</li> <li>In consultation with Year 8 and 10 Leaders, developing appropriate transition programs.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>The Head of Valdocco will:</strong></p> <ul> <li>In collaboration with the Learning Area Leaders and the Year 9 Learning Leader, facilitate the writing of Course Documentation, based on the relevant study design or framework, which reflect the needs of St Joseph’s College.</li> <li>Ensure that all communications with teachers, students and parents are of the highest quality.</li> <li>Participate (as required) in Year 9 Campus appointments and induction (of new staff).</li> <li>Interview prospective students.</li> <li>In collaboration with the Leadership Team, be responsible for the care and use of buildings and resources.</li> <li>In collaboration with the Valdocco Leadership Team, Outdoor Education Leader and the External Provider, coordinate the Year 9 Expedition.</li> <li>Attend to the spiritual needs of students including provision of reflections/prayer and Mass program, liturgies etc.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Professional Development</p> <ul> <li>Leading professional development in the Valdocco Campus by offering professional development activities at designated times during the year.</li> <li>Identifying professional learning needs for individuals and groups.</li> <li>Encouraging staff to participate in targeted activities and become active members of their professional association.</li> <li>Attending professional learning activities to ensure personal and professional development.</li> <li>Supporting and explaining College policies in learning matters to Valdocco Campus staff.&nbsp;</li> <li>Managing Valdocco staff to maximise effectiveness of the Valdocco Campus.</li> <li>Observing and coaching teachers to improve teaching practice.&nbsp;</li> <li>Making recommendations to the College Leadership Team as to appropriate Professional Learning for individuals and for the Valdocco Campus as a whole.</li> <li>Participating in mentoring programs for new members of staff.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Administration</strong></p> <ul> <li>Facilitating attendance of Valdocco staff at relevant professional development activities through the College professional learning procedures.</li> <li>Chairing Valdocco Meetings and organising regular meetings within the Valdocco Campus for discussion with respect to matters of educational practices and principles.</li> <li>Forwarding Agenda and Minutes of these meetings to the Principal, Deputy Principals and relevant Valdocco Staff.</li> <li>Ensuring that copies of the various courses of study offered by the Valdocco Campus are located with the Learning Team and that each relevant subject teacher has these courses.</li> <li>Participating in the development of the annual budget, and supervising its expenditure.</li> <li>Requisitioning Valdocco Campus purchases according to the College’s purchasing procedure through the Finance Team.</li> <li>Ensuring that all resources purchased within the Valdocco Campus are processed according to the College’s procedures before distribution.</li> <li>Contribute to publications and social media.</li> <li>Cooperating with the Head of Learning and the Chieri Resource Centre in ensuring that all resources are returned to the Chieri Resource Centre (or the Valdocco ‘Chieri Space’) as appropriate.</li> <li>Overseeing the care and conservation of specialist rooms and equipment where appropriate. This applies particularly to Arts, Technology, Science and Health and Physical Education.</li> <li>Organising, in consultation with the Deputy Principals, Directors and Learning Area Leaders, the compilation of resource/book lists within the Valdocco Campus.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Other duties as determined by the Principal or delegate.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Key Performance Indicators</strong></p> <ol> <li>Display a high degree of accountability and efficiency in the carrying out of the duties for this position.</li> <li>Able to competently carry out multi-tasking duties both in immediate and longer-term situations.</li> <li>Be approachable and responsive to all members of the Valdocco Campus.</li> <li>Demonstrate strong evidence of commitment and contribution to the effective operation of the Valdocco Campus.</li> <li>Display particular insights into the issues of transition both into Year 9 and into Year 10.</li> <li>Show initiative and enthusiasm in all matters relating to Learning and Teaching development at the College.</li> <li>Be able to establish and maintain a positive spirit and good order within the Valdocco Campus.</li> <li>Be continually striving to improve the academic results of the Valdocco Campus.</li> </ol> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Criteria for Selection</strong></p> <ol> <li>Proven record as a skilled educator.</li> <li>Support and participation in the faith life of St Joseph’s College including commitment to the Salesian ethos of the College.</li> <li>Evidence of a commitment to acquiring and maintaining ‘Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School’, actual ‘Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School’ or ‘Accreditation to Teach Religious Education or Lead in a Catholic School’.</li> <li>Ability to effectively lead a team of staff within the Valdocco Campus.</li> <li>Ability to promote a healthy learning environment which promotes best practice and excellence in student learning and wellbeing outcomes.</li> <li>Knowledge and understanding of contemporary practices and policies related to ‘learning and teaching’ and ‘student wellbeing’ e.g. Child Safe Policy and Reportable Conduct.</li> <li>Ability to use information and data effectively to maximise student wellbeing, learning outcomes and engagement.</li> <li>Ability to ensure that offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, shared spaces and the yard are in excellent condition at all times.</li> <li>Ability to ensure that the wearing of the correct College uniform is of the highest standard within and outside the College.</li> <li>Ability to ensure that behaviour is of the highest standard within and outside the College.</li> <li>Ability to ensure attendance and punctuality standards are of the highest standard e.g. above 95%.</li> <li>Ability to provide additional opportunities for students outside the designated curriculum and programs.</li> <li>Well-developed interpersonal skills including organisation and communication.</li> <li>Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.</li> <li>Commitment to ongoing professional learning.</li> </ol> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Terms and Conditions</strong></p> <p>Terms and conditions are as outlined in the <i>CEMEA 2022</i> for Registered Teachers. Salary is set out in the Award according to years of experience and qualifications.&nbsp;The position is POL 3 and minimum time release of 360 mins per week. The tenure is two years. The position reports to the Principal via the Deputy Principals.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The Head of Valdocco is required to participate in a formal Appraisal Process during the tenure period and this may include a review of the programs offered at the Year 9 level.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The Head of Valdocco&nbsp;is required to participate in Middle Leaders Professional Learning activities during the tenure period.
