Library Technician / Digital Resource Specialist at FLCR plays a pivotal role in assisting the library team to deliver contemporary and innovative library services across both the primary and secondary campuses.

The Library Technician / Digital Resource Specialist supports the broader work of the library in developing a culture of reading and a love of learning within the College, with a particular focus on the technical and digital aspects of the service.

Reporting to the Head of Library Services, the Library Technician / Digital Resource Specialist is a permanent, full-time term-time position, with four additional, negotiated, non-term weeks. Some 7:30am starts and 4:30pm finishes are also required during the school week.

Key skills

  • Tertiary qualifications at Certificate/Diploma level (or equivalent), such as the ALIA accredited Diploma in Library and Information Studies.
  • A high level of skill in using library management systems (preferably Oliver) and experience in managing a range of digital resources and services.
  • Expert digital skills and technological knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in children’s literature and literacy, and the ability to work confidently with students of all ages.
  • A willingness to work collaboratively within a team to innovate and adapt services to meet the changing requirements of contemporary learning.
  • Hold a paid Working With Children (WWC) Blue Card, First Aid Certificate (or willingness to complete) and Drivers Licence.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Managing the library database, including cataloguing of library resources, stocktaking, weeding and maintenance of borrower records.
  • Maintaining and creating new digital content; including research and information guides, news pages and promotional content.
  • Maintaining and updating a range of digital resources, digital equipment and online teaching and learning subscriptions and supporting staff and students to use digital technologies.
  • Assisting students and staff with locating information and supporting their development of library, information, media and digital literacy skills.
  • Assisting with library programs, lessons and activities, as well as broader extra and co-curricular programs and special school events outside of the library learning space.
  • Collaborating with the library team to develop and support reading for pleasure and other library programs for the wider College community.
