About the Role

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Paralegal is responsible for providing professional support to the Governance and Legal team in the delivery of legal services and compliance responsibilities for Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS).

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • acting as an initial point of contact for the team
  • providing advice and where necessary escalating to other team members
  • analysing and summarising documents
  • drafting pleadings, document responses and responding to discovery requests
  • case planning, development, and management
  • legal research, fact gathering and information retrieval
  • drafting correspondence
  • undertaking fact checking
  • monitoring email inboxes, tracking enquiries and maintaining a register of incoming matters
  • performing a range of secretarial functions including filing, record keeping, data management and report generation
  • any other duties as directed from time to time.

About You

We are seeking a motivated and professional candidate with the following experience, skills and knowledge:

  • paralegal qualifications, current law student, undergraduate degree in law or relevant industry experience
  • demonstrated knowledge of legal terminology, legal research techniques and legal communication principles and practices
  • advanced capacity to comprehend and decipher legislation and legal documents
  • demonstrated thorough knowledge of legal principles and procedure
  • highly organised with an ability to juggle multiple deadlines and priorities
  • strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • high attention to detail and accuracy
  • willingness to respect, support and uphold the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of SCS.

Desirable:

  • previous experience in the Education and/or not for profit sectors
  • a current driver's licence.
