Youth / Social Worker

St Francis Flexible School works with young people who are disengaged from mainstream education with the aim of re-engaging them in creative, meaningful and intentional learning. Our schools work with young people through a trauma informed approach respectful to the educational needs of each learner.

The purpose of a Flexible School is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences supporting them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training and social connectedness.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Youth/Social Worker to join our team, working at our Hobart campus. We have a role commencing as soon as possible.

• You will be employed on an ongoing basis, and you will be employed under the Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement 2024. Salary will be Wellbeing Level 3 $80,722 to $92,859 per annum depending on qualifications and experience, plus $5,000 Hard to Staff Allowance.

The Youth/Social Worker reports to the Principal or delegate. The Youth/Social Worker supports and leads:

• effective learning and teaching programs for young people in both middle and senior phases of secondary education.
• physical health and emotional wellbeing of the young people.
• development and implementation of the schools strategic and operational plans regarding the function of your role as youth/social worker.
• maintenance of a supportive and inclusive school environment.
• relationships with the school, staff, students and their families, industry, and community organisations in relation to planning, actions and achieving outcomes.
• young people to engage with relevant external agencies through appropriate referral pathways and stakeholder meetings.

ABOUT YOU

ESSENTIAL:

• A Working with Vulnerable People Registration (or able to obtain)
• Current driver’s licence (essential)

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

• An understanding of and commitment to principles of social justice
• Understanding of current youth/social work practice, trends and issues in service provision to marginalised young people particularly within the alternate education sector
• Sound level of verbal and written communication skills, including participating in meeting processes, report writing and negotiation skills
• Skills in computing (especially word processing, Internet) and skills, or the ability to develop skills in database
• Proven ability to work autonomously and in an integrated manner as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
• Qualifications at Degree, Diploma or Certificate level with Social Work/Youth Work experience (or working towards a qualification) or equivalent life experience
• Previous experience in the youth sector with knowledge and understanding of the local First Nations communities
