An Aboriginal Learning and Support Assistant is needed at Catholic Schools Broken Bay on a temporary full-time basis.

Covering an expansive geographical area which includes the Central Coast, Sydney’s Northern Beaches and North Shore, Catholic Schools Broken Bay is a system serving 45 Catholic Schools with around 18,000 students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

About the Role

Catholic Schools Broken Bay is looking for an Aboriginal Learning Support Assistant to support the Learning Partner: Aboriginal Education in the implementation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into teaching, learning and as part of the school culture.

The Aboriginal Learning Support Assistant works in alignment with the ‘Towards 2025 Strategy’ to implement and support the Culture of collaborative continuous improvement in CSBB schools.

It is a genuine occupational requirement that the position be filled by a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

This is a temporary full-time tole to start on 31 March 2025 and end on 4 July 2025.

This position will be required to work in a cluster of schools within CSBB on the central coast.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be able to effectively demonstrate the following:

  • Support the cultural identity of Aboriginal students in secondary and primary schools
  • Advise on protocols for interacting with the Aboriginal community in relation to all school staff and Aboriginal students in the school and Aboriginal education activities
  • Encourage the involvement of Aboriginal parents in school programs and their participation in decision making
  • Maintain effective relationships with Aboriginal parents and the Aboriginal community
  • Collaborate to involve Aboriginal parents and the community in school programs & activities
  • Support the teachers when discussing with parents the progress of Aboriginal student learning and development
  • Is adaptive and responsive to change and can adapt to working under pressure and re-prioritising tasks
  • Can manage competing priorities and the sensitivities of others to deliver high quality work

CSBB employees contribute to the shared responsibility of safeguarding students in our care.

Qualifications

  • Valid Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence (and own car required)
