We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our small Finance Team.

Permanent, part time (15.2 hours per week)

Clerical Level 7 ($115,000 annual salary pro-rata)

Flexible arrangement for school hours only or hybrid work possible.

Role Overview

Working collaboratively with, and under the direction of the Business Manager, the Senior Accountant will provide oversight of the school’s Finance function and support for the Business Manager, thereby contributing to the financial viability of the school.

With independent professional discernment based on relevant educational qualifications and high level of financial expertise, this role works closely with other Finance team members and the Business Manager to create and implement financial plans, policies, and strategies for the effective management of the school’s financial resources.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • prepare strategic financial models and projections
  • annual budget preparation
  • financial evaluation of potential business opportunities and projects
  • prepare of the monthly financial reports for Board meetings
  • reconcile and maintain the Fixed Asset Register and depreciation schedule
  • assist with the preparation of external audit materials and financial reporting
  • oversee day-to-day accounting processes and General Ledger maintenance
  • assist, when required, with preparation of Statutory and Federal & State Government returns
  • prepare monthly financial reports such as Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow statement and Cash Flow Forecast
  • prepare and lodge Australian Tax Office requirements, such as but not limited to BAS returns, FBT return and PAYG; and
  • backfill when required for Payroll Officer leave. (Additional Casual hours)

Applicant Requirements

  • Professional registration and experience as a CA /CPA/CMA
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with finance systems
  • Experience with or ability to learn Synergetic school management system
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of personal initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Calm under pressure and able to prioritise workloads under demanding deadlines
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality

The successful candidate must also:

  • hold ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Registration; and
  • be eligible to work in Australia, unrestricted.

Salary and conditions of employment are determined by the Independent Schools ACT (Support and Operational Staff) Staff Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021. We are currently in the implementation phase of a new agreement.

Probation

There is a 6-month probationary period.
