Chaplain / Counsellor
Contract Type: Contract Position Part Time (0.65 FTE)

We have a fantastic opportunity for a School Chaplain/Counsellor to join the Siena Community. This is a fixed term, part time position commencing on 22nd April, 2025 and concluding on 26th January, 2026, with the possibility of an ongoing contract. The position will be for 2 or 3 days (negotiable).
<p><strong>Role Overview</strong></p>
<p>The Siena Catholic Primary School Chaplain/Pastoral Care Leader provides support to students, staff, and families by fostering wellbeing, resilience, and connectedness within the school community. This role requires strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to support students' emotional, social, and mental health needs.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications & Skills</strong></p>
<p>Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:</p>
<ul>
<li>Certificate IV in Youth Work</li>
<li>Certificate IV in Pastoral Care</li>
<li>Certificate IV in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care</li>
<li>An equivalent qualification (as determined by the State) including competencies in mental health and responding to client needs (incorporating making appropriate referrals)</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Assist teaching staff with planned and immediate adjustments to support student welfare and wellbeing, considering ability, cultural background, and religious background.</li>
<li>Collaborate with staff on whole-school initiatives aligned with the School Annual Action Plan and the Disability Standards for Education.</li>
<li>Build relationships with students and support teachers by being present in classrooms.</li>
<li>Provide parenting support through forums, virtual connections, and available resources.</li>
<li>Offer direction to external resources and outreach services for families.</li>
<li>Conduct one-on-one sessions for students, parents, and staff.</li>
<li>Actively contribute to the Wellbeing Team and Guiding Coalition meetings.</li>
<li>Attend and network at relevant professional development aligned with Positive Behaviours for Learning and other school-based initiatives.</li>
<li>Assist students in developing personal and social skills for success, including playground activities and social skills programs.</li>
<li>Support students experiencing grief, trauma, or change through programs such as <i>Seasons for Growth</i> and <i>Peaceful Kids</i>.</li>
<li>Liaise between the school and home to support families experiencing hardship, dysfunction, or additional needs, linking them to external agencies as required.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Salary Level</strong></p>
<p>The salary range for this position is between ESB 4-2 and 4-4 of the CEMEA 2022, depending on experience.</p>
<p><strong>Skills & Expectations</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Ability to engage with students across Foundation to Grade 6.</li>
<li>Support and collaborate with staff to identify and nurture students' strengths.</li>
<li>Facilitate open communication between families and the school community.</li>
<li>Foster strong child-parent relationships through honest, appropriate communication.</li>
<li>Utilize evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Strength-Based Therapy.</li>
<li>Create a safe, welcoming environment for students.</li>
<li>Network and collaborate with external services to support student and family welfare.</li>
<li>Work effectively with the Welfare Team, Leadership, and autonomously.</li>
<li>Provide individual and group sessions to support students' emotional and mental wellbeing.</li>
<li>Attend staff and leadership meetings to collaborate and network.</li>
<li>Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.</li>
<li>Manage multiple priorities effectively and work within tight timelines.</li>
<li>Maintain proficiency in administrative software (eg: SIMON & Google Suite) for record-keeping and documentation</li>
<li>Relevant Child Safety qualifications CertificateWorking with Children Check</li>
</ul>
<p>This role is integral to fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment where students, staff, and families feel valued and connected.</p>
