Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) serves Catholic school communities across Illawarra, Macarthur, Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven regions. CEDoW’s 38 Catholic schools, together with the Catholic Education Office (CEO), constitute the system of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Wollongong. <p><strong>Location:</strong> Catholic Education Office, Wollongong</p><p>The Director of Schools Diocese of Wollongong, invites Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for this position with Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW). This is a temporary part time (35 hours per fortnight) whilst the substantive role holder takes a period of parental leave. This role involves:</p><ul><li>demonstrating an understanding of and commitment to the mission of Catholic Education;</li><li>undertaking a range of administrative activities to provide effective support to the legal function, enabling this function to operate efficiently;</li><li>communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders of varying levels of seniority, within the Catholic Education Office (CEO), CEDoW schools, and external stakeholders;</li><li>managing and prioritising requests (including phone calls and multiple inboxes) for legal advice;</li><li>preparing and producing subpoena materials, and addressing requests for information;</li><li>contributing to the preparation of draft correspondence and legal documentation;</li><li>updating and collating documentation and records regarding legal matters, policy development and other relevant issues; and&nbsp;</li><li>undertaking legal research under the direction of the In-House Legal Counsel.</li></ul><p><strong>ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:</strong></p><ul><li>A commitment to supporting the mission and purpose of Catholic education.&nbsp;</li><li>Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate in plain English and maintain accurate and timely administrative records, legal records and file notes.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to effectively manage calendars and multiple inboxes.&nbsp;</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to draft correspondence, prepare and proof-read documents and take in amendments with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to manage legal files and maintain legal databases and records.</li><li>Ability to undertake legal research under direction.</li><li>Ability to liaise with a breadth of relevant contacts within CEO services areas and schools, and external stakeholders as required, with a high degree of professionalism.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, and show autonomy and initiative.</li><li>Knowledge of or experience in providing support within a legal environment (desirable).</li></ul><p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:</strong></p><ul><li>Relevant tertiary qualifications (or working towards) and/or demonstrated equivalent relevant experience.&nbsp;</li><li>Experience in providing support within a legal environment is desirable.</li><li>Advanced Microsoft Office skills.</li><li>Capacity to use enterprise resource planning applications and records management systems with a high degree of competency.</li></ul><p>Expressions of interest are welcome from law students who have substantially progressed through their degree and are seeking an opportunity to obtain work experience and develop their skills in an in-house legal environment in which flexible work arrangements will be considered.</p><p><strong>WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE</strong></p><p>This role is classified as child related work and therefore a Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to your employment with CEDoW.</p><p><strong>POSITION APPLICATION</strong></p><p>Applicants are to complete an online application addressing the criteria (maximum 2-3 pages) and submit a short CV (2-3 pages).</p><p>To confidentially discuss your application contact Sarah Cahill, CEDoW In-House Legal Counsel on 02 4250 9506 prior to COB on 20 December 2024.</p><p>To submit your Application please select the “Apply now” button at the bottom of this advertisement.</p><p><strong>Closing date: 10 January 2025 at 11:55pm</strong></p>
