The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, uphold confidentiality, and have a background in counselling. <p><strong><u>POSITION OVERVIEW</u></strong></p><p><strong>Position Title:</strong> Student Counsellor </p><p><strong>Commencing:</strong> 20/01/2025</p><p><strong>Reports to</strong>: Coordinator of Cedar Care </p><p><strong>Hours: </strong>8:00 am to 4.00 pm, 4 days a week, 40 weeks per year, with 4 weeks annual leave. Wage is annualised over the year.</p><p><strong>FTE Salary: </strong>Commensurate with qualifications &amp; experience</p><p><strong><u>ABOUT HE ROLE</u></strong></p><p>The Student Counsellors support student&#39;s wellbeing by applying professional knowledge to address needs, promote safety, and facilitate learning. They collaborate with school leaders, staff, families, and external agencies, providing confidential counselling. The role requires a Christian worldview and alignment with the College’s vision and strategic direction.</p><p><strong>Applicants will also demonstrate an active involvement in their local church and align themselves with the College’s core beliefs.</strong></p><p><strong><u>Some Key Responsibilities:</u></strong></p><ul><li>Following policies and procedures that are legal requirements and best practices.</li><li>Providing counselling to students as needed, addressing issues such as family dynamics, friendships and relationships, self-harm and self-injury, anger management, abuse, substance use, sexuality, identity, and suicide prevention.</li><li>The Timely and effective communication and collaboration with College staff, families, the Cedar Care Coordinator, College leadership, the Cedar Pastor and external services as appropriate.</li><li>Maintaining clear and accurate case notes and files on all counselling interventions, storing case notes securely to ensure confidentiality and in line with current ‘best practice’, being cognisant of Cedar’s legal and moral duty of care.</li><li>Providing advice to staff and parents on the development, psychological, and emotional needs of students.</li><li>Where appropriate, in consultation with the Cedar Care Coordinator, running programs or small group activities to meet a specific need.</li></ul><p><strong><u>Personal Requirements:</u></strong></p><ul><li>Demonstrate a sincere commitment to Jesus Christ, the philosophy of Christian Education, and be actively involved in your local church.</li><li>Be reliable and responsible in building trust within the Cedar community and acting with excellence and integrity.</li><li>Demonstrate the ability to interact with students and colleagues in a positive, sensitive and respectful manner.</li><li>Ability to model and develop positive relationships with students and foster their physical, spiritual, social and emotional development.</li></ul><p><strong><u>Required Qualifications and Checks:</u></strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling) or equivalent</li><li>Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)</li><li>RRHAN-EC Training (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care)</li><li>Protective Practices online course <i>prior to employment</i></li></ul><p><strong><u>Applications Close:</u></strong> 4 pm, Monday November 18, 2024.</p><p><a href="https://www.cedarcollege.sa.edu.au/downloads/PID/PID-Cedar-Care-Student-Counsellor-2025.pdf" rel="nofollow">Position Information Description</a></p><p><a href="https://www.cedarcollege.sa.edu.au/news/advertised-positions/" rel="nofollow">Visit the Cedar College website for more information.</a></p>
