Meriden is a leading Anglican girls’ school located in Sydney’s inner-west. This is a full-time, permanent position. Salary range: $90,000- $115,000

<p>Meriden is an Anglican school with a Christian foundation. Many of the staff live out their Christian faith and are active members of a local church. Meriden seeks to cater for all students’ interests and abilities and offers a broad range of subject areas which are taught in purpose built facilities.</p><p>We welcome applications for the position of Science Teacher in our Senior School campus. This is a permanent full-time role reporting to the Head of Department – Science and ultimately, the Principal.</p><p>The Science Department at Meriden oversees the teaching of Science in the School, including the senior disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Science Extension, and Junior Science to Yrs 7-10.</p><p><strong>Professional Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>planning, preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes</li><li>designing a range of assessment tasks and marking guidelines and outcomes</li><li>marking work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils&#39; progress and development</li><li>researching new topic areas, maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge and then devising and writing new curriculum materials</li><li>assisting in assessing changing curricular needs</li><li>selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment</li><li>preparing pupils for qualifications including external examinations and competitions</li><li>ensuring academic reports are written in accordance with Meriden report guidelines and style rules</li><li>managing pupil behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour</li><li>participating in and organising extracurricular activities such as excursions</li><li>participating in departmental meetings, parents&#39; evenings and whole school training events</li><li>undergoing regular observations and participating in regular in-service training as part of continuing professional development</li><li>working with the Head of Department and senior staff to ensure that all School policies and procedures are adhered to</li><li>working in close partnership with other departmental staff to ensure that the subject specific curriculum is fully realised</li><li>meeting professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines and honouring schedules</li><li>providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfil their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth</li><li>organising and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Meriden School policies</li><li>undertaking pastoral duties, such as taking on the role of form tutor, and supporting pupils on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties</li><li>undertaking such other duties as may be required by the Head of Department or the Principal.</li></ul><p><strong>Essential Attributes:</strong></p><ul><li>ability to teach junior science as well as forensic science </li><li>the ability to communicate and motivate students via a variety of teaching methods</li><li>clear and effective oral and written communication skills</li><li>excellent teaching and learning strategies, promoting an environment of active and purposeful learning</li><li>relationships with students marked by mutual respect and professionalism</li><li>effective organisation and time management skills and the ability to work independently with little direct supervision</li><li>excellent IT skills</li><li>the ability to work as part of a team</li><li>a love of learning and a desire to promote STEM education to girls.</li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications and Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>Tertiary qualified</li><li>At least two years (2yrs&#43;) or more teaching experience </li></ul><p><strong>Personal Qualities:</strong></p><ul><li>displays excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a high level of collaborative practice</li><li>positively contributes to and works as an effective team member</li><li>possesses a broad and deep understanding of current educational issues, curriculum development, and pedagogical theory</li><li>represents the School proudly and appropriately, with high standards of speech and attire</li><li>displays clear and effective written and oral communication skills</li><li>demonstrates proficient ICT skills and expertise</li><li>a willingness to embrace and enhance the Christian ethos and practice of Meriden, as an independent Anglican School for girls</li><li>loyal to the Principal and publicly supportive of her decisions.</li></ul><p><strong>How to apply:</strong></p><p>Written applications should be addressed to the Principal, Mrs Lisa Brown, and include the following:</p><ul><li>A cover letter with your title</li><li>Detailed CV outlining qualifications and experience</li><li>A current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number with your date of birth</li><li>Details of NESA Accreditation</li><li>A copy of your valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate</li><li>Names and contact details of three referees.
