Offering staff a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive team environment with an emphasis on community, academic excellence, pastoral care, and development.</p><p><strong>Applications are invited for the following position.</strong></p><p><strong>Workshop Assistant / Handyperson / General Hand/ Maintenance </strong></p><p><strong>Permanent Full-Time Position</strong></p><p><strong>Commencing ASAP</strong></p><p>We seek to appoint a Workshop Assistant to support the Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) department by undertaking various non-teaching duties associated with the efficient and effective running of TAS classes.</p><p>The role is required to be performed predominantly during school term time only, 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday from 8.30am - 4.36pm.</p><p><strong>The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience in the areas of:</strong></p><ul><li>Prepare stock for school projects including cutting and sizing of materials / cutting timber into specified lengths;</li><li>The use of power tools and hand tools in a safe manner;</li><li>General maintenance of workshop machinery/tools (e.g. changing blades) and organisation of external servicing of machines;</li><li>Oversee ordering and delivery of materials upon approval from the Academic Head of TAS;</li><li>General ‘handyman’ jobs (i.e. shelving, fixing vices, creating signage, hanging pictures etc) within the TAS department;</li><li>Assisting teachers and students in practical lessons when required;</li><li>Assisting with supervision and instruction of senior students in TAS workshops when required;</li><li>Assist in creating resources for other departments within the school as deemed necessary by the Academic Head of TAS and the Principal; </li><li>Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the workshops to ensure staff and students work in a safe and pleasant environment (e.g. sweeping off and oiling of machines, regular changing of sander belts);</li><li>Sharpening of hand tools and the ability to sharpen woodworking chisels and lathe tools to College standards;</li><li>Basic maintenance of machines including maintenance of dust extraction system (including vacuum bags and workshop ducted extractor system);</li><li>Keeping consumable items stocked;</li><li>Cataloguing and maintaining of all purchase records for TAS including MSDS documentation;</li><li>Undertake all WH&amp;S duties as required and possess an understanding of WHS requirements in a workshop environment (e.g. signage, compliance, hazardous substances register/Chemwatch, MSDS register);</li><li>Other duties and administrative tasks as directed by the Academic Head of TAS or Assistant Academic Head of TAS.</li></ul><p><strong>The successful applicant will have:</strong></p><ul><li>General hand, carpentry or maintenance experiences;</li><li>Experience with hand tools and power tools;</li><li>A driver’s licence;</li><li>Concern for the safety of students and other staff is of paramount importance;</li><li>Knowledge of relevant tools, machines and materials;</li><li>Knowledge of traditional and contemporary practices in design and technology;</li><li>Knowledge and experience in working with timber and metals;</li><li>Competency in working with machines such as drop saws, table saws, drill presses, disc sanders, belt sanders, scroll saws, handheld routers;</li><li>An ability to undertake simple repairs to equipment;</li><li>The ability to communicate effectively with staff and students in a professional manner;</li><li>Strengths in problem solving, multi-tasking, initiative taking, thinking and decision making;</li><li>The ability to impart knowledge and skills to support teaching staff;</li><li>Well-developed interpersonal skills;</li><li>Strong planning, organising and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritise;</li><li>The ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations;</li><li>An ability to work without supervision or general guidance;</li><li>Basic computing skills including Microsoft Outlook, and Word;</li><li>A commitment to ongoing professional learning including remaining current with global best practice;</li><li>A clear understanding and commitment to the Mission of the Catholic School;</li><li>A willingness to support of the Lasallian ethos of the College;</li><li>Be an innovative, and engaging team member;</li><li>A commitment to the Colleges Safeguarding Standards and Child Protection policies and procedures.</li></ul><p><strong>Applications close at 9:00am on Monday 23rd September 2024</strong></p><p><strong>Please refer to the position description for further information.</strong></p><p><strong>How to Apply:</strong></p><p><strong>APPLICATION MUST BE MADE ON-LINE VIA THE COLLEGE WEBSITE</strong></p><p>https://www.oakhill.nsw.edu.au/employment</p><p>To apply for the role, candidates need to submit a covering letter (2 pages maximum) and an up-to-date curriculum vitae that clearly details their relevant skills and experience. </p><p>Oakhill College is committed to child safety and Safeguarding Standards and the health, safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, and school community.
