A full time, permanent role is available for an experienced and qualified special education teacher to provide intensive support for individual students with high level, complex needs in our Primary School. This role commences in Term 1, 2025.
Special Education Teachers work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Learning Support (K-6) to devise appropriate support programs for individual students, including life skills programs. They are responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating a range of IEPs, positive behaviour support plans, socio-emotional and personal care programs for a small number of individual students. They support teachers to make adjustments and modifications across the curriculum. In collaboration with the Coordinator of Learning Support, they will liaise with key staff, families and external professionals of students with diverse and complex needs, as well as facilitating professional learning for other staff.
The successful applicant for this role will be an accredited teacher with recognised tertiary qualifications in Special Education, and experience working in a special needs context. They will have the skills to work individually and intensively with students with challenging behaviours, who may also have an intellectual disability and/or Autism as well as students with delayed receptive and expressive language. The successful candidate will have strong curriculum knowledge and differentiation skills and ability to adjust and modify the curriculum to meet the needs of individual students. They will have strong collaborative skills, demonstrating the ability to establish effective relationships with other teachers, teacher assistants, family members, and external professionals.
