<p><strong>Temporary Secondary Classroom Teacher (English)</strong></p><p>Oran Park Anglican College is a vibrant learning community in one of the fastest growing areas of Southwest Sydney. Catering for over 1100 students Prep – Year 12 in modern purpose-built facilities the College has established its reputation as providing a respectful, joyous and collaborative learning environment with strong pastoral support. In a recent School Review the College was described as a “positive, joyful community where the care of students was paramount”. </p><p>As the number of secondary students continues to grow, we are seeking to appoint a dynamic educator with passion and experience in English with the ability to teach up to Stage 6 English to join our Senior School team.</p><p><strong>Position Summary</strong></p><p>The English Classroom Teacher will work with other staff to be an effective professional who demonstrates thorough curriculum knowledge, can plan, teach and assess effectively, take responsibility for professional development and promotes the vision and mission of the College. </p><p><strong>Reports to:   </strong>Head of Faculty<br /><strong>Status and Hours:   </strong>Part Time, Temporary position (2025)<br />Student supervision hours are 8 am – 3.30 pm, although an understanding is required that the role will require greater hours than this, including attendance at weekly staff meetings and other after-hours events.<br /><strong>Full Time Equivalent (FTE):   </strong>0.7 (3-4 days a week) with the possibility of filling up the remainder of the load with casual days. The position has the potential to become permanent and grow as the College grows.<br /><strong>Commencement Date:   </strong>Term 1 2025<br /><strong>Dress Code:   </strong>Oran Park Anglican College requires staff to dress in a professional manner, fitting of an independent school.</p><p><strong>Major Responsibilities</strong></p><p>The English Classroom Teacher role calls for a caring, approachable educator who can encourage, develop and nurture the growth of students in their care. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:</p><ul><li>Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed.</li><li>Setting appropriate academic and behavioural expectations.</li><li>Active participation in goal setting, coaching and learning sprints for improving pedagogy.</li><li>Promoting the general progress and wellbeing of students. </li><li>Providing effective feedback to students which promotes growth in their learning.</li><li>Having an active commitment to and involvement with the co-curricular life of the College.</li><li>Modelling a Christian example in all activities and care for the spiritual welfare of the students in their care.</li><li>Working collaboratively with other staff to promote the College’s values: courage, curiosity, craftsmanship, collaboration and compassion.</li></ul><p><strong>Professional and Personal Attributes</strong></p><p>The English Classroom Teacher must have the capacity to build effective relationships with students, staff and parents to enhance student wellbeing and outcomes. Essential criteria for this role include:</p><ul><li>A committed Christian and an active member of a church.</li><li>Relevant tertiary qualifications to teach Stage 4 – 6 syllabuses and NESA teacher accreditation.</li><li>Knowledge of current subject area syllabus documents and proven ability to develop contemporary teaching and learning programs that engage students and improve outcomes including explicit direct instruction, inquiry-based learning and problem solving, and an ability to develop students critical thinking in the classroom.</li><li>A demonstrable understanding of assessment as, of and for learning appropriate to the subject area.</li><li>Demonstrated ability in using technology in the learning process.</li><li>An understanding of and commitment to student wellbeing. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to contribute to the co-curricular life of the College.</li><li>Well-developed written, oral and organisational skills. </li><li>An ability to work effectively as a team member.</li><li>A commitment to ongoing personal professional development.</li></ul><p><i><strong>Desirable Criteria</strong></i></p><ul><li>A familiarity with Growth Mindset, Habits of Mind, and Visible Thinking / Cultures of Thinking which underpin our Learning Power Approach to teaching and learning.</li><li>Understanding and experience in use of restorative practices within a student wellbeing framework. </li><li>Ability to teach stage 6 English Advanced and/or English Standard. Willingness to teach a Stage 4 HSIE subject if required.</li><li>Willingness to teach outside their subject area as the need arises in a growing school.</li></ul><p><strong>Additional Information</strong></p><p><strong>References:   </strong>Provide three (3) referees one of whom should be the Minister of the Christian community you serve within, who can support your application.<br /><strong>Salary:   </strong>In accordance with the Independent Schools NSW/ACT Standards Model (Teachers) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021.<br /><strong>Child Safety:   </strong>Oran Park Anglican College is committed to child safety.
