The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and has a current enrolment of 200 students. St Patrick’s is situated in the heart of a rural community. St Patrick’s continues to provide quality Catholic education for all in the Bega Valley, this tradition of quality education began nearly 150 years ago. St Patrick’s centres teaching and learning on our vision, values and principles.</p><p><strong>About the Role</strong><br>The Aboriginal Education Worker&nbsp;contributes to the mission of the Catholic Education System of the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn by personal example of commitment to service in Aboriginal education. The role aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with a range of cultural and educational programs, enhance the partnership between families of Aboriginal and/or students and their schools and support teachers and school staffs in matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education. The goal of this plan is to accelerate the educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students by:<ul><li>Communicating high expectations for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students</li><li>Assisting in developing Personalized Learning Plan when and where required</li><li>Assisting teachers and parents / carers with programs that support attendance and participation of Aboriginal and/or students, including the development of partnerships between the school and the local Aboriginal community</li><li>Providing academic/social support to Aboriginal and/or students and their parents, and support for their participation in school. This involves being a positive role model for all students.</li><li>Providing support in classroom experiences and assisting teachers to incorporate cross curriculum priorities into teaching and learning program including culturally inclusive strategies and resources.</li><li>Providing support to Aboriginal students in the context of classroom learning, working with individuals and small groups of students.</li><li>Contributing to the Aboriginal cultural competency of school staff and students by:<ul><li>presenting information about Aboriginal culture;</li><li>promoting and assisting with cultural activities throughout the year;</li><li>suggesting culturally appropriate human and material resources for school programs;</li><li>Assisting with special events, eg the NAIDOC Week Mass, SORRY Day and Reconciliation Week as requested by the Schools.</li><li>Promoting Catholic Aboriginal organizations, such as the Archdiocesan Indigenous Education Advisory Committee, to all Aboriginal parents and staff.</li></ul></li></ul></li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Must hold a relevant Working with Children (WWCC) registration.</li><li>Relevant work experience would be beneficial</li><li>Performs duties that typically require a skill level which assumes and requires knowledge and training equivalent to completion of certificate III, or completion of year 12 or completion of certificate II, with relevant work&nbsp;experience.</li></ul><p><strong>Essential Criteria</strong></p><ul><li>A commitment to the goals of Catholic education and a readiness to foster the aims and vision of the school in the wider community.</li><li>Applies knowledge with depth in some areas and a broad range of skills in a variety of roles and tasks</li><li>Uses discretion and judgement in planning and organising and achieving outcomes in time constraints</li><li>Works under general direction.
