Contract Type: Permanent/Ongoing Position Full Time

Applications Close: 14 August 2024

Goldfields Baptist College, WA

Goldfields Baptist College is the only Kindergarten to Year 12 registered educational facility in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, creating a consistent pathway on a student’s learning journey. We are a multicultural, multi-denominational, co-educational school that offers a holistic Christian education. Our learning, pastoral care and relationships are built upon a strong Christian foundation, and we are extremely proud of our working environment, which is one of unparalleled support and community.

As is captured in our Mission Statement, the College culture is one of community and support that nurtures and equips not only our students, but each person, for life. As such, at GBC, we invest deeply into one another as colleagues, and approach all elements of our professional practice with a view to continue to collaboratively grow together. This makes it a wonderful environment in which to flourish as a professional, amongst committed colleagues who are eager to invest into you, your personal wellbeing, and your professional growth.

Our Mission

At GBC, we are creating a flourishing educational community that is being transformed by the Truth of God’s word. We are nurturing and equipping each person for life, empowering them to be thriving contributors in the world.

Location

Kalgoorlie is 600km from Perth, which means a 50-minute flight, an approximately six-hour train trip, or an approximately six and a half hour drive through regional Western Australia. Once in the Goldfields, you might be surprised at what is available in our remote city. With a population of over 30,000, the facilities and amenities available are not that different to what is found in city suburbs. One of our biggest points of difference, however, is the incredibly strong community spirit, with some of the most egalitarian and down-to-Earth people that can be found anywhere, coupled with tightly knit church communities that join together regularly for combined praise and fellowship.

Position Description

There are many extraordinary blessings and challenges to working in a small school in regional Western Australia. At GBC in particular, we certainly see our fair share of challenges, but the unity, passion, joy and rewards of the mission field we are called to in this place remain unparalleled. As a staff, we pray together, laugh together, sing together, worship together and sharpen one another, just as iron sharpens iron. As a College, we live our Mission statement each and every day – in our students, staff and wider community. We know that God does not always call the equipped, but equips the called, so we are happy to have a conversation about the diverse demands of this heavy, but extremely rewarding, role with anyone who feels they may not be as equipped as they might like, but are willing to take up the challenge and follow where Jesus calls.

The role of Deputy Principal at Goldfields Baptist College calls an individual to work extremely closely with the Principal and Business Manager to lead and direct the College through day-to-day operations, including student behaviour management and staff growth and development, strategic school improvement planning, curriculum development, student growth initiatives, and all manner of callings. The GBC Deputy Principal is as much a spiritual leader amongst the GBC Christian community, as they are a leader of curriculum and operations.

Whilst working as a Deputy Principal in a small, regional school, you will develop and be further equipped in:

Curriculum development, planning and application, with specific emphasis on delivery of the curriculum in all subject areas from a Christian lens (applicants do not need to be expert in all aspects of the WA Curriculum, but will be willing to work towards mastery of this)

General College policy development, review and implementation

Human Resources, relevant legislation and the implications on, and application to, College policy and decision-making

Fair Work, relevant legislation and requirements and the implications on, and application to, College policy and decision-making

National Child-Safe Principles, Non-Government Schools Registration Standards, School Curriculum and Standards Authority data entry, general compliance and other relevant legislation, and the implications on, and application to, College policy, decision-making and operations

Risk assessment and management

Creative problem solving

Timetabling and calendar organisation

Managing competing high-level demands within very high-priority areas

Christian servant-leadership

While there are many demands in this role, no requirements are carried out in isolation, but are executed as an active contributor to a supportive, collaborative team. If the above describes traits that you feel you could bring to the role, or feel ready and willing to grow in, please follow the directions to submit an application.

Requirements and Application

This position is a 1.0 FTE, with demands that sometimes extend beyond normal business hours. Experience in middle/senior leadership positions is preferred, though highly organised and professional teachers, who are ready to begin their journey into executive leadership will also be warmly considered. Applicants should please submit the itemised requirements using the 'Apply for Job' button before 4:00pm on Wednesday the 14th August 2024:

For further information, please feel free to contact Goldfields Baptist College directly.

While this position is scheduled for commencement in 2025, should the right applicant be available and willing to commence sooner, appointment in Term Four 2024 may be considered, in order to facilitate a smooth and comprehensive handover from the current Deputy Principal.

GBC is
