Our secondary campus in Dandenong is looking for a Youth Worker to join our great team in supporting engagement at school for our students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Interested? We would love to hear from you.

<p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Facilitate or organise small groups and activities for secondary students around aspects of challenge such as identity, anxiety and social interaction.</li><li>Contribute to improving secondary student attendance, engagement and connectedness.</li><li>Provide pastoral care, support and guidance to secondary students with a hearing loss implement strategies to overcome difficulties.</li><li>Support secondary students to develop positive behaviours and thoughts as part of the College Positive Behaviours for Learning practice.</li><li>Provide secondary students with referrals to external specialist services as required.</li></ul><p><strong>Selection Criteria</strong></p><ol><li>Experience in supporting a range of student wellbeing needs, particularly those who are deaf or have a disability.</li><li>Capacity to work within a team and an ability to liaise with outside agencies.</li><li>Experience in working with youth to enhance engagement and connectedness.</li><li>An ability to provide pastoral or mental health support to students both within and outside of classroom environments.</li><li>Ability to present a professional, positive, warm, calm and welcoming persona and remain professional by maintaining high levels of confidentiality. </li><li>A demonstrated understanding of child safety and of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.</li></ol><p><strong>Commitment to Child Safety</strong></p><p>The successful applicant will:</p><ul><li>Be familiar with and comply with the school&#39;s child-safe policy and code of conduct, and any other policies or procedures relating to child safety. </li><li>Assist in the provision of a child-safe environment for students.</li></ul><p><strong>Qualification and Requirements</strong></p><p>Applicants must hold a Certificate IV equivalent or higher qualifications that includes competencies in;</p><ul><li>mental health and making appropriate referrals and</li><li>providing pastoral care or working with youth</li></ul><p>This includes Diplomas and Certificates in Counselling or Youth Work.</p><p>An understanding or knowledge of deaf or hard of hearing students would be an advantage. </p><p>Applicants must hold or be willing to acquire a Working with Children Check card and must be willing to undergo a National Police Record Check.</p>
