Speech Pathologists

A Speech Language Assistant is required to work with our Speech Language Pathologist in the delivery of therapy programs to deaf and hard of hearing primary and secondary students. This exciting part time position would be suitable for students currently studying a Speech and Language course at university.

<p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Delivering basic therapy programs developed by the Speech Language Pathologist to deaf and hard of hearing primary and secondary students with and without additional disabilities under the direction of the qualified Speech Pathologist. </li><li>Preparing resources and materials.</li><li>Establishing and maintaining records for therapy sessions delivered.</li><li>Assessing student needs by observing, noting, and monitoring progress, and recommending changes to the Speech Language Pathologist.</li><li>Collaborate with Teachers on supports provided to individual students and on issues arising in the classroom in relation to those supports.</li><li>Model respect for the Catholic faith within the College and partner school community.</li></ul><p><strong>Selection Criteria </strong></p><p>Applicants will be required to demonstrate the appropriate professional standards as follows: </p><ol><li>Ability to perform the role of a Speech Language Assistant in primary and or secondary settings. </li><li>Ability to work independently, demonstrate effective organisation and utilise problem-solving skills.</li><li>Be currently studying speech pathology at a university (minimum 2nd year).</li><li>An understanding of the impact of hearing loss on speech and language development would be an advantage. </li><li>Be open to travel to other St Mary’s College campuses if required <i>(an allowance for any travel would be provided)</i></li><li>A demonstrated understanding of child safety and of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.</li></ol><p><strong>Child Safety</strong></p><p>The successful applicant will:</p><p>• Be familiar with and comply with the school&#39;s child-safe policy and code of conduct, and any other policies or procedures relating to child safety </p><p>• Assist in the provision of a child-safe environment for students</p><p><strong>Who May Apply</strong></p><p>Currently studying Speech and Language (2nd year minimum) </p><p>People suitable to engage in child-connected work.</p><p>Applicants must hold or be willing to acquire a Working with Children Check card and must be willing to undergo a National Police Record Check.</p>
