Classroom Support Assistant - St Joseph's Primary, O'Connor ACT

The school caters for students in Preschool - Year 6 and has an enrolment of 308 students in the primary school. Students attending our school come from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities. To be successful in this role, you will have well-developed interpersonal skills and a willingness to assist students to engage in their learning.</p><p><strong>Benefits and Opportunities </strong></p><ul><li>A positive and collaborative workplace culture </li><li>24 weeks of paid parental leave (maternity/adoption) </li><li>Up to 14 weeks of paid parental leave (paternity/non-initial primary carer leave) </li><li>Support for professional development and study opportunities </li><li>Opportunities to transfer to other schools within the Archdiocese across ACT and NSW to support lifestyle choice </li></ul><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Assisting students with day to day activities, travelling and other duties that may arise</li><li>Care of flora and fauna</li><li>Carrying out individual programs of a self help nature that develop independent skills in students</li><li>Supervising students in non-teaching periods</li><li>Under direction, taking students for their individualised teaching plans in specific areas, and reporting to Teachers on, and charting, student progress</li><li>Taking part in case management meetings with Teachers</li><li>Working in collaboration with a Teacher or group of Teachers in the implementation of learning and teaching strategies for an individual student, groups of students or class</li><li>Receiving, issuing, distributing, stock-taking and safeguarding of teaching resources, goods, supplies, stores, materials and equipment</li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications </strong></p><ul><li>Current Working with Vulnerable People registration.</li><li>Most hold Certificate IV in Education support or equivalent relevant knowledge/experience </li></ul><p><strong>Selection Criteria </strong></p><ol><li>Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with students with learning needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.</li><li>Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the educational programs, including classroom support and therapy programs where they have been implemented.</li><li>Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students.</li><li>Effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers.</li><li>Ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students.</li></ol><p><i>Please refer to the position description for in-depth details regarding the position duties, criteria, and skill set required. </i></p><p><strong>Other Eligibility Criteria </strong></p><ul><li>You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible to apply for this position. </li><li>Appointment is subject to satisfactory employment screening for child-related employment in accordance with CECG policy. </li></ul><p><strong>Application Process </strong><br>Applicants are required to submit a cover letter and current resume including a statement of suitability against the skills, attributes, and experience as outlined in the Position Description. </p><p>This position involves working with children.
