The secondary School (7-12) is located on College Street in the city of Sydney and the two preparatory Schools are located at Edgecliff (K-Year 6) and St Ives (Preschool-Year 6).</p><p>Sydney Grammar School offers many benefits to our staff including paying substantially above other Independent Schools.</p><p><strong>About the Role</strong></p><p>The School Academic Support Assistant will provide support for pupils with identified diverse learning needs in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes.<br />The primary responsibility of the Academic Support Assistant, under the guidance of the Director of Studies and the relevant Class Teacher, is to work closely and cooperatively with teaching staff to provide support for pupils learning in the classroom, small groups, and one-to-one settings. Work will be predominantly with pupils who require additional learning support, though it may also include strategies to support social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes. The position will be 8.30 – 12.30pm, Monday to Friday (20 hours per week).</p><p> </p><p><strong>Knowledge, Skills, and Experience</strong></p><p><br />• This position requires a dynamic and caring individual who is committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment where all pupils can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.<br />• The role would suit a new teaching graduate who is eager to gain experience in the classroom or a more experienced teacher who loves children but wishes not to have the programming and administration work associated with teaching.</p><p><br /><strong>Personal Characteristics</strong></p><p><br />• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.<br />• Ability to work with neurodiversity and students with emotional or physical support needs.<br />• Effective communication skills.</p><p><br /><strong>Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p><p>• Undertake a wide variety of tasks associated with classroom learning experiences (e.g. assisting teachers in the preparation, implementation, and supervision of pupils through the delivery of learning programs).<br />• Assist pupils in learning under the direction of a teacher and supporting documentation such as Individual Adjustment Plans (IAPs).<br />• Assist in the design and implementation of practical activities under the supervision of a teacher.<br />• Apply personal knowledge and initiative to suggest modifications to educational programs to meet the learning needs of specific students, subject to the approval of the applicable teacher.<br />• Assist in implementing strategies and interventions to address the unique needs of pupils who demonstrate social, emotional, and behavioral challenges or differences.<br />• Confer with teachers for all matters relating to pupils under their care.<br />• Attend and participate in school excursions and co-curricular activities as required.<br />• Attend and participate in professional learning sessions as required.<br />• Individual pupil and small group support.<br />• Work with pupils 1:1 in an independent environment.<br />• Supervise pupils with identified learning requirements.</p><p><br /><strong>Essential Requirements</strong></p><p><br />• Working with Children Check Clearance<br />• Relevant NESA Teaching qualifications</p>
