St Mary MacKillop College (SMMC) is a Catholic co-educational secondary College operating within the Catholic Education (Canberra & Goulburn) system, and is located on two campuses in the Tuggeranong valley. The Padua junior campus (years 7 to 9) is located in Wanniassa, and the St Peter’s senior campus (years 10 to 12) is located 5 km away in Isabella. SMMC has a total of around 2050 students, and around 220 staff across both campuses.

The Library Teacher (Learning Commons Teacher) is part of the Learning Commons team, who support staff and students in the goal of becoming life-long learners with an appreciation for academic integrity, enabling our students to become confident and ethical contributors and members of the wider community. </p><p><strong>Benefits and Opportunities </strong></p><ul><li>A positive and collaborative workplace culture </li><li>Extensive training in our high-quality professional learning program, Catalyst </li><li>Access to curriculum resources that support evidence-based, high-impact teaching practice </li><li>24 weeks of paid parental leave (maternity/adoption) </li><li>Up to 14 weeks of paid parental leave (paternity/non-initial primary carer leave) </li><li>Support for professional development and study opportunities </li><li>Opportunities to transfer to other schools within the Archdiocese across ACT and NSW to support lifestyle choice</li></ul><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Support the Learning Commons Coordinator in the promotion of the Learning Commons as a dynamic and evolving learning environment.</li><li>Use the Learning Commons to extend classroom learning</li><li>Undertaking library administration tasks as required.</li><li>Assist users in locating and evaluating digital and print resources</li><li>Have knowledge of, and experience applying the Australian Curriculum including the Cross Curriculum Prioirites and the General Capabilities</li><li>Assist Faculty Coordinators and teachers in resourcing assessment and class tasks</li><li>Support students who require assistance with the completion of assessment.</li><li>Promote independent, collaborative and inquiry based learning</li><li>Support students who are on alternate education plans</li><li>Collaborate with teachers to plan and implement information literacy and literature programs</li><li>Use technology as a teaching and learning tool</li><li>Assist in the development and implementation of the Learning Commons physical and digital space and resources.</li><li>Support the after school library access and work on a rotational supervision roster.</li></ul><p><strong>Essential Criteria </strong></p><ul><li>Must hold a relevant Working with Children registration and Teaching Accreditation; </li><li>Must have completed relevant degree</li><li>Be an outstanding teacher of experience and initiative who can work effectively with the curriculum team, colleagues, students and families;</li><li>Demonstrate a deep knowledge of contemporary issues and practices in teaching from Years 7-12;</li><li>Contribute to the development of pedagogy and assessment practices across the curriculum;</li><li>As a classroom leader work effectively with colleagues and their Faculty Coordinator to develop a vision and profile for Learning Commons;</li><li>Support the College to build community with staff, students and their families;</li><li>Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, parents and community members; and</li><li>Promote stewardship of our Vision for a Catholic School in the Josephite tradition.</li></ul><p>Please refer to the position description for in-depth details regarding the position duties, criteria, and skill set required.</p><p><strong>Other Eligibility Criteria </strong></p><ul><li>You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible to apply for this position. </li><li>Appointment is subject to satisfactory employment screening for child-related employment in accordance with CECG policy. </li></ul><p><strong>Application Process </strong></p><p>Applicants are required to submit a cover letter and current resume including a statement of suitability against the skills, attributes, and experience as outlined in the Position Description. </p><p>This position involves working with children.
