An Auslan Educational Interpreter is required to join our team at Ringwood in providing communication assistance and interpreting of spoken information in classrooms and other educational activities for secondary students who are Deaf.

<p>The role of the Educational Support – Auslan Educational Interpreter is to support Deaf students to access the mainstream curriculum in the classrooms of our partner school.</p><p><b>Key Responsibilities:</b></p><ul><li>Interpret all communication between students and teachers in designated classes.</li><li>Adapt the register or style of interpreting to fit the language needs of the student.</li><li>Attend and interpret at College assemblies, camps, excursions, TAFE and sporting activities as required.</li><li>Support students with additional disabilities in managing class requirements.</li><li>Assist in the maintenance and use of assistive listening devices and live captioning.</li><li>Work as part of a team, maintaining confidentiality with private or sensitive information at all times.</li><li>Follow procedures and practices as identified in St Mary’s Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework.</li><li>Collaborate with Teachers of the Deaf and mainstream staff in reporting on the effectiveness of supports provided for individual students and on issues arising in the classroom in relation to those supports.</li><li>Reviewing lesson content if possible/necessary prior to a class.</li><li>Model respect for the Catholic faith within the College and partner school community.</li></ul><p><b>Selection Criteria</b><br /></p><ol><li>Ability to perform the role of an Educational Support - Auslan Educational Interpreter in primary and or secondary settings.</li><li>An awareness of deafness, and the educational, social and emotional needs of deaf and hard of hearing students.</li><li>An understanding of and ability to respond to the various communication styles of individual deaf students.</li><li>Willingness to be flexible and an able to work as a member of a team.</li><li>A demonstrated understanding of child safety and of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.</li></ol><p><b>Child Safety </b></p><p>The successful applicant will:</p><ul><li>Be familiar with and comply with the school&#39;s child-safe policy and code of conduct, and any other policies or procedures relating to child safety</li><li>Assist in the provision of a child-safe environment for students</li></ul><p><b>Who May Apply </b></p><ul><li>People suitable to engage in child-connected work. </li><li>Applicants must hold or be willing to acquire a Working with Children Check card and must be willing to undergo a National Police Record Check. </li><li>People with relevant experience and/or qualifications in Auslan. </li><li>A willingness to undertake appropriate NAATI qualification as required. </li></ul><p><b>Position Conditions </b></p><p>Position Location: Ringwood </p><p>Position Type: Fixed </p><p>Work Hours: Part time (negotiable) </p><p>Classification: Education Support Range 2 Category B </p><p>Award: CEMEA 2022<br /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>
