A Speech Language Pathologist with an interest in deaf and hard of hearing students is required to join our team in developing the personal, social and academic engagement of our primary and secondary students in one or more of our campuses.

<p>The Speech Pathologist assists in developing oral language and effective communication skills to facilitate the personal, social and academic development of students. They deliver a range of therapeutic services designed to assist in the management and remediation of school aged deaf and hard of hearing children who may or may not have other associated conditions. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech Pathologist works closely with Teachers of the Deaf, families and classroom teachers.<br /></p><p><b>Key Responsibilities </b></p><ul><li>Conduct a range of specialist assessments including observations, communication checklists, interaction-based assessments and standardised assessments.</li><li>Maintain and prepare records and reports.</li><li>Effectively and positively work with other staff members of St Mary’s College, students’ families and classroom teachers of our partner schools in planning for oral language development.</li><li>Provision of appropriate communication and/or language intervention for students including individual therapy (online and face-to-face), group therapy or classroom-based sessions.</li><li>Conduct annual language testing with students across the whole school, analyse trends in growth and advise leadership on the impact of intervention strategies.</li><li>Be open to researching areas of interest relevant to directions provided in the school’s priorities.</li></ul><p><b>Key Selection Criteria </b></p><ol><li>Assess, design and deliver appropriate speech and language interventions for identified primary and secondary students.</li><li>Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people within the education community on complex matters.</li><li>Ability to provide guidance on implementing appropriate strategies and programs that support language development in students to professional education teams.</li><li>An understanding of the impact of hearing loss on language development and speech acquisition.</li><li>Knowledge and/or experience working with children in an educational setting.</li><li>A demonstrated understanding of child safety and appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.</li><li>Respect the Catholic educational philosophy of the school</li></ol><p><i>Ability to communicate in Auslan is <b>NOT</b> required.</i></p><p><b>Child Safety </b></p><p>The successful applicant will: </p><ul><li>Be familiar with and comply with the school&#39;s child-safe policy and code of conduct, and any other policies or procedures relating to child safety</li><li>Assist in the provision of a child-safe environment for students</li><li>Successful applicant must hold or be willing to acquire a Working with Children Check card and undergo a National Police Record Check</li></ul><p><b>Position Conditions </b></p><p>Position Location: South Morang or Wantirna South (negotiable) </p><p>Position Type: Ongoing </p><p>Work Hours: 8:30am- 4:36pm </p><p>Classification: ES Cat: B, Level 4 </p><p>Award: CEMEA conditions 2022 </p><p><i>Packaging (tax free income) available to significantly increase take-home pay and generous professional development opportunities.</i></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>
