Head of Pathways
Contract Type: Permanent/Ongoing Position Part Time (0.80 FTE)

Applications are invited for a passionate Careers Advisor at Santa Maria College to assume the role of Head of Pathways. This position is part-time (0.7-0.8FTE) with flexibility on days and the hours spread across the days. This is a non-teaching position categorised under Education Support Officer Level 4.
<p>Santa Maria College is a Catholic Girls’ Secondary School enriched with the tradition of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan catering for over 800 students from Year 7–12. <p><b>About the Role:</b></p>
<p>The Head of Pathways will help prepare students for the world of work and links career and subject choice to independent learning, providing careers education to students, that will assist them to plan their future vocational direction.</p>
<p>The Head of Pathways is a member of the Learning and Teaching Team and in this role is directly accountable to the Principal through the Deputy Principals.</p>
<ul>
<li>Maintains a Pathways/ Careers Resource Area that is up-to-date with relevant information on careers/pathways, post-secondary education and further training options</li>
<li>Assists students (Years 10 - 12) with subject choices, tertiary course application procedures (VTAC) and provides information to parents for work placement visits</li>
<li>Lead the work experience and work placement programs with admin support, ensuring that legislated guidelines are met</li>
<li>Contributes to career education sessions where applicable</li>
<li>Be available at an appropriate time for the VCE/VM students, once the results are known or tertiary offers are released, at the end of the academic year, to support the students for potential career and university selection changes</li>
<li>Informs the school community on a regular basis of careers activities such as Careers Seminars, Open Days and Industry Days</li>
<li>Manages an annual budget, maintains appropriate records and keeps the Resource Area up-to-date with relevant purchases of materials</li>
<li>Advises Year 12 Students regarding VTAC choices and other post-secondary options</li>
<li>Provides VCE subject selection advice</li>
<li>Provides VCE/VM advice to students and families in conjunction with the VCE/VM Coordinator</li>
<li>Provides advice in regards to specialist areas of study</li>
<li>Advises parents/guardians of options available to students including scholarships, and job pathways programs</li>
<li>Monitors student destinations Years 10-12</li>
<li>Assists students leaving school with job search and application skills</li>
<li>Assists students to find apprenticeships and traineeships</li>
<li>Informs the school community about labour market developments and how that impacts on student career and job options</li>
<li>Keeps the school community abreast of changes to the vocational training sector</li>
<li>Oversee the VET enrolment and application process for students<br></li>
<li>Undertake all administration and documentation associated with the VET pathways, including but not limited to, the provision of student details to the VET administrator and application details to the group trainer or regional</li>
<li>coordinator</li>
<li>Liaise with TAFE’s and other providers to ensure attendance and the recording of results</li>
<li>Work with the VCE VM Coordinator with work placements for VCE VM students</li>
</ul>

<p><b>About you</b><br></p>
<ul>
<li>Certificate IV in Career Development (desirable)</li>
<li>Demonstrate excellent communication skills (written and verbal)</li>
<li>Strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents and emerging young adults.</li>
<li>Proficient in the use of ICT for communication and record keeping.</li>
<li>Experience and understanding of the VCAA ATAR requirements, VTAC and other tertiary admission requirements including VCE Major / VET.</li>
<li>Interpersonal skills appropriate to establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff and parents, particularly the ability to work as a member of a team.</li>
<li>Organisation and administrative skills appropriate to planning and coordinating a range of careers expos and information sessions for parents and students.</li>
<li>VIT or WWCC Certification</li>
<li>Commitment to supporting the College’s relational management and restorative practice.<br></li>
<li>Demonstrated leadership and management skills.</li>
<li>Maintain a positive environment which is respectful of all present and fosters student learning and motivation.</li>
<li>Participate in the College's professional development activities in and out of school hours.</li>
<li>Participate in the College's extra-curricular and co-curricular programs as required.</li>
<li>Proven experience in establishing and building an appropriate careers pathway for Senior School students in conjunction with their families</li>
<li>The ability to develop existing networks and relationships between employers, tertiary institutions and the Santa Maria community to ensure that students are fully informed about their future choices and career goals<br></li>
<li>Expertise in providing education to Middle School/Senior School staff regarding counselling students about career choice and subject choice</li>
</ul>
