<div> <b>About the role </b> </div> <div> Giant Steps’ teachers work collaboratively in a dynamic team of teacher aides, speech therapists, occupational therapists and music therapists. Teachers are supported by Giant Steps’ therapists in the classroom to deliver the curriculum and understand and implement a range of strategies and supports to enhance the teaching and learning experience of students. Giant Steps has an established inclusive, neuro-affirming culture that it actively seeks to foster through acceptance and understanding of the child as an individual. </div> <div> <br> </div> <div></div> <div> Giant Steps is committed to innovation across all facets of the school. The Giant Steps staff team includes over 20 teachers, 50 teacher aides, 8 speech therapists, 8 occupational therapists and 7 music therapists. These staff support 103 students across our primary and secondary schools. </div> <div> <br> </div> <div></div> <div> The school operates many complimentary services to support students and their families including an on-site mental health clinic with specialist support from a paediatrician and psychiatrist. Please see our website for more information about our school. </div> <div> <b><br></b> </div> <div></div> <div> <b>Duties and responsibilities </b> </div> <ol> <li>To deliver quality teaching for students on the autism spectrum, including the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the class program</li> <li>To design, implement, assess and report the progress of students according to their Individual Plan</li> <li>To design and implement differentiated teaching resources specifically targeting the individual needs of their students</li> <li>To implement strategies supporting student engagement within the program</li> <li>To collaborate effectively within the trans-disciplinary team</li> <li>To support and manage teacher aides in the class team</li> <li>To respect and support colleagues and families through positive communication</li> <li>To actively ensure the ongoing inclusion of students on the autism spectrum within their school and wider community</li> </ol> <div> <br> </div> <div> <b>Essential criteria </b> </div> <ol> <li>Relevant degree</li> <li>Accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA)</li> <li>First aid certificate or be willing to obtain one</li> <li>Have an active approach to interacting and engaging with children</li> <li>Effective member of a team with excellent communication skills</li> <li>Understanding of supporting students on the autism spectrum or willing to participate in professional development in this area</li> </ol> <div> <b><br></b> </div> <div> <b>Desirable experience </b> </div> <ol> <li>Experience working in a special education setting</li> <li>Additional qualifications in Special Education or further study in relevant areas</li> <li>Experience working with children on the autism spectrum</li> </ol> <div> <br> </div> <div> <b>What the successful candidate can expect from Giant Steps </b> </div> <ul> <li>Access to extensive professional learning opportunities given Giant Steps’ commitment to the professional development of all staff</li> <li>Increase your take-home income through access to maximum allowable Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption due to Giant Steps status as a PBI</li> <li>Additional benefits include working in a team, access to a range of professional expertise from different disciplines, access to mentoring from experienced teachers</li> <li>Salary scale between $86,000 to $122,000</li> </ul> <div> <br> </div> <div> Giant Steps Sydney is a child safe school.
