The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Development Coordinator provides leadership, support and coordination of the professional development and progression of Xavier Catholic College and Murrupurtiyanuwu Catholic Primary School (MCPS) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adult workforce employed in the school.

Our staff, with the strong support of local Tiwi Teachers, and cultural and community leaders, are committed to making a difference every day in the lives of young Tiwi people.</p> <p>Working on Tiwi is a privileged and extremely rewarding experience, where you will find yourself fully immersed in a culturally and spiritually rich environment.</p> <p><b>Key responsibilities: </b></p> <ul> <li>Be the contact point for all training, professional development and/or upskilling for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce in the school.</li> <li>Undertake assessment and development of Work Plans with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.</li> <li>Identify appropriate training and develop pathways to support the professional development of staff.</li> <li>Build and develop community relationships ensuring a sustainable training program for staff in the school.</li> <li>Provide coaching and mentoring to staff.</li> <li>When requested, assist to support staff to ensure all necessary employment requirements have been met, e.g ochre cards, teacher registration (TRB) etc.</li> <li>Support trainers/coordinators to ensure that staff have undertaken all mandatory training e.g Mandatory Reporting, Child Protection, WHS and Manual Handling etc.</li> <li>Support management staff to ensure all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff have undertaken workplace responsibility induction training, including having a clear understanding of Fair Work processes and the schools handbook.</li> <li>Have a clear understanding of and implement the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Development Strategic Framework.</li> <li>Regularly analyse workforce data for the school.</li> <li>Work in partnership and maintain professional engagement with the Manager Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education, Engagement, Workforce Development.</li> </ul> <p><b>Essential Criteria: </b></p> <ul> <li>Commitment to the Catholic Ethos.</li> <li>Commitment to the Catholic Church‘s teachings on Social Justice; commitment to National Reconciliation.</li> <li>Understanding of the challenges of education in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.</li> <li>Proven ability to interact effectively with people from different cultures, especially those affected by intergenerational trauma.</li> <li>Demonstrated high level communication skills including strong interpersonal, negotiation and consultation skills conducive to maintaining open and effective relationships.</li> <li>Understanding of when and how to maintain confidentiality.</li> <li>Ability to manage self and others who may report to you.</li> <li>Diploma, Bachelor and/or Masters in Education.</li> </ul> <p><b>Desirable Criteria: </b></p> <ul> <li>Experience working with Aboriginal and Islander people.</li> <li>Working knowledge of Workforce Development.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience in delivering and monitoring training to adults.</li> </ul> <p><b>Qualifications required / or required to obtain in Semester 1: </b></p> <ul> <li>Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment.</li> </ul> <p><i>For a more detailed Job Description, please contact Kellie McGinlay, Principal - MCPS or Rhett Bowden, Principal - Xavier Catholic College, using the contact details below. </i></p> <p>Wurrumiyanga, Bathurst Island is readily accessible by air and ferry. Accommodation and utilities are paid, and assistance with relocation is provided. This position is awarded a Position of Responsibility (POR) allowance.
