Director of Human Resources, Risk and Governance – Permanent Position

<p>Reporting to the Principal, the Director of Human Resources, Risk and Governance is a member of the College Leadership Team and is an established position of senior responsibility within the College, leading a whole school approach to human resources, risk and governance.</p><p><strong>Permanent full-time position – Commence 25 November 2024 (</strong><i><strong>or by negotiation</strong></i><strong>)</strong></p><p>The Director of Human Resources, Risk and Governance is responsible for overseeing three critical areas of the College: human resources (HR), risk management, and governance and integrating these functions to ensure the College operates effectively, complies with regulations, and manages risks while maintaining a positive workplace culture for our most valuable asset - our people.</p><p>The Director of Human Resources, Risk and Governance plays a strategic and operational role by:</p><ul><li>Overseeing the College’s Human Resources strategy, including the recruitment, employee relations, and compliance with legislation.</li><li>Managing risks across the College by identifying, assessing, and working with the College Leadership Team and EREA NSW Colleges Ltd to mitigate those risks.</li><li>Ensuring the College’s governance structures and policies are robust, transparent, and compliant with the NSW Education Standard Authority (NESA) registration and accreditation requirements for non-government schools and other industry regulations.</li><li>Acting as a key link between the leadership team and the workforce to ensure ethical leadership, College accountability, and operational efficiency.</li></ul><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong> </p><p>The Director of Human Resources, Risk and Governance will provide leadership in the following areas: </p><p><strong>Human Resources </strong></p><ul><li>Oversee all aspects of the employment lifecycle – attraction, recruitment, induction, development, retention, performance and exit.</li><li>Manage employee relations, addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and ensuring a positive workplace environment.</li><li>Ensure the integrity of information on the College’s HRIS (Sage People) in relation to its people.</li><li>Oversee disciplinary actions, grievances, and investigations while maintaining fairness and compliance with relevant legislation.</li><li>Maintain updated policies and procedures in line with local, state, and federal employment regulations.</li><li>Assist the Principal to develop best practice human resource strategy for the College to meet compliance in line with statutory requirements, policy and procedures.</li><li>Oversee audits and ensure proper documentation of employment records.</li><li>Monitor and analyse workforce metrics to improve operational efficiency and decision-making.</li><li>Contribute to the formulation and implementation of key documents, policies and processes.</li></ul><p><strong>Risk</strong></p><ul><li>Risk identification and assessment of potential risks that could affect the College as per the College’s ‘Strategic Risk Register’, including strategic, financial, operational, legal, regulatory, human resources, and reputational risks.</li><li>Work with the College Leadership team to develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks. </li><li>Prepare and manage crisis response and emergency management plans, ensuring that the College is ready to handle emergencies or unexpected challenges.</li><li>Oversee internal audits to ensure that processes and policies are followed correctly and recommend improvements where necessary.</li><li>Stay abreast of legal and regulatory changes that affect the College and ensures that policies and procedures are compliant with current legislation.</li><li>Periodically review / audit compliance activities for accuracy and integrity.</li><li>Advise the College Leadership Team of any material compliance or policy matters requiring attention</li><li>Prepare within the CompliSpace software appropriate reports for the College Advisory Committee and its subcommittees in relation to risk and compliance.</li><li>Facilitate the promotion of a robust risk management and compliance culture, with a focus on working together with, and training senior staff.</li><li>Drive College awareness and compliance with current EEO, WHS, Fair Work, Child Protection, and other employment legislation.</li><li>Manage the administration and maintenance of the CompliSpace platforms of PolicyConnect (Staff Policy Portal); CompliLearn (Staff Online Learning System) and Assurance (Staff Registers and Reporting).</li><li>Review third party agreements / contracts and advise the College Leadership Team of perceived risks with recommendations for amelioration.</li><li>Manage College systems for the effective capture of reportable incidents.</li><li>Manage processes for investigating, reporting and analysing data with respect to reportable incidents.</li></ul><p><strong>Governance</strong></p><ul><li>Support the Principal to monitor and devise recommendations for the College’s compliance with corporate governance accountabilities as per EREA NSW College’s Ltd and ensure all relevant legal and statutory requirements are met.</li><li>Identify and document key legal, regulatory, organisational and contractual compliance obligations.</li><li>Supports the management of EREA NSW Colleges Ltd and College policies and procedures.</li><li>Assist in the regular review of governance processes including analysing existing processes, recommending and implementing changes, documenting new processes and procedures to support compliance, continuous improvement and innovative best practice in governance.</li><li>Promote a culture of ethics and accountability across the College, ensuring that governance principles such as fairness, integrity, and inclusivity are integrated into everyday operations.</li></ul><p>This is a dynamic role requiring exceptional communication, interpersonal and organisational skills together with an ability to prioritise and work autonomously.
